I say alleged for a reason: I do not know if I trust the audio track on this. The video portion, until an obvious edit where the first portion stops (they then used a special effect to segue into a scene later on), seems to be fairly accurate.

It does seem like there was a barricade between the videographer and the crowd at the doors, because people are seen climbing some kind of wall (either that, or they were standing on a very short person's shoulders).

Looking at the user's Youtube profile, they do live in New York City.

This will likely be my last post on this incident.

4. the more of these videos that get out, the less prepared Walmart looks

it would be like having a live concert and not preparing for a crowd to show up. there are no instructions from megaphones, or anything of any sort to indicate crowd control.

just walmart stupidity is what I see in this video, showing no control over their operation (in which encouraged all these folks to show up and then not provide instructions, not to mention security)

walmart best be getting their checkbooks out to write out some pretty hefty fees, fines and awards to victims for this mess

9. Some one from NYC called in on Ed Schultz today and said
That because of a TORT law that was passed in 1996 the family of the man that died cannot collect any damages from Wal Mart. So his family will not see a dime from this.

12. I'd be surprised
given the loopholes in pretty much every law, that there wasn't a way around that. Especially if they go after the corporation vs. state group

18. The man's family will at the very least receive the required Workmen's Compensation death benefits.
Workman's Compensation is considered no-fault -- no matter who is negligent, the benefits are paid regardless. It's not much (I think all of $50k if that), but they'll at least be able to bury him. I'm 28 and I don't have a burial insurance policy, and I highly doubt a 34 year old would either.

The news articles didn't mention if this poor man had a wife or children, I think WC does give other benefits if the worker who died had children, similar to Social Security death benefits.

But none of that comes anywhere close to compensating for a life lost.

No amount of money can do that.

5. Wow, I never thought the people who show up at 5:00am
on Black Friday were geniuses...but this shows in such a glaring manner the utter stupidity of some of these people. There was one guy I saw leaving with a look of "I'm getting the hell out of here" on his face. The others acted like it's a friggin carnival.

11. Ah! You caught that guy too! Grey sweatshirt, hood up, right?
I agree, he had the look on his face of someone
who sensed the danger and wanted to be a mile away
from the potential of harm. Smart guy, apparently the only
one in the entire crowd.

6. humans are weird
The fact that they are so compelled to buy stuff that they'll cause a stampede is a strange case for psychologists. just saying.

8. This is probably the video
Of the real tragedy at Sprawl Mart. You hear the glass breaking and the guys saying that very thing. They didn't know someone's life was in danger or dead. These were just young kids who were going to shop at Sprawl-Mart. They were too far back to have done anything to cause this. This is Sprawl Mart's fault.

I hope they also prosecute ever single person that MURDERED that poor man.

A preg-o woman was also trampled along with others.

13. I hope Obama fixes education in this certain parts of this country
Those people are dumb. The sales aren't that great except for a few marked items.

The crowd was disorderly. I don't blame Walmart. IF there were individuals who sparked a riot, then those individuals should be brought to justice. It looks and sounds like that may have been the case.

Yes Walmart is evil...but wouldn't it be great if justice was brought to those who deserve it. Individuals made this mess.

I went around today online for Cyber Monday and the sales at Amazon were nothing out of the ordinary.

People are dumb and easily fooled.

15. i can't tell if that's the walmart or not
i really wished the camera would have panned around. I know the stores in that little shopping center. Wal-Mart is, obviously, the biggest one, but there's also a pet store and, I think, a dollar store in that strip too.

but i think it was that walmart because there's two doors, an entrance and a exit (people use both for either, it doesn't really matter), but the side that they broke down was the side the worker was laying by, so if I had to guess, I'd say this is video of the scene that night.

16. Yeah this isn't a Wal-Mart problem...
I wish it were that simple. This is a problem of a consumption-centred cultre gone ape-shit crazy.

We are living all wrong. Tearing down the doors of Wal-Mart? We should be tearing down the doors of the White House, but no one seems to really give a shit. This god-awful war can't get people off their asses like a sale at Wal-Mart can and that's a sad reality; a symptom of a fundamentally ill society.

That guy who got trampled was the unfortunate victim, but there are millions more victims hidden from our sight. Unemployed workers, impoverished foreigners, entire species and ecosystems, all sacrifed daily at the altar of consumer capitalism.

Selfishness, Capitalism, Short-Sightedness, Self-Righteousness. Simply Do Not Work.
