1. I knew it was my little friend Huey--wondered where he'd gone when he left the funny pages

Well, first things first: This jeremiad is not meant for you and me, the melanin-deficient. It is directed at the black community by one of their own. Frankly we do not really have a place in this particular conversation, especially given the vocabulary that Aaron McGruder has chosen to put in the mouth of Dr King.

And second: It is a jeremiad, a fiery sermon from someone (in this case McGruder, in the person of Huey, in whose imagination MLK still lives) who is both anguished and disgusted at wasted opportunities and wasted lives.

That's all at first glance.

2. McGruder knows how to lampoon these racial issues

The point I seeing being made here is that "black culture" as promoted by most of the media (and especially BET) is a damaging stereotypical caricature. In the old days, it was called "cooning it up." And since people always emulate what they see on the TEE-VEE, they go about with their modern version of "cooning it up" and end up losing their dignity.

3. Why in the world are you posting this on DU??

You'd be hard pressed to find another spot on the web where this will go over as many heads as it will here.
