As for a nation being pathetic... Iraq lived under a tyrant imposed and supported by a superpower. When the tyrant was no longer a willing puppet to the superpower's interests, Iraq was starved and destroyed by a decade of complete economic embargo. A hungry and tired people were finally swarmed by the largest military on the planet, and a new tyrant was imposed upon their lands.

In spite of this, they do not bow, they do not surrender. Years of occupation that followed have awakened a guerilla uprising, a deadly resistance that fights the perceived enemies of the people by any means necessary, with home-made explosive devices, and people who give their lives in delivering them to the targets. Yes, the coalition did invade and occupy the land in 3 weeks, but it can never conquer it. No amount of tanks and jet planes can do that, as long as many people of Iraq see their freedom as an ideal worth dying for. Not risking their life for, but most assuredly dying for.

I'm not sure what constitutes being pathetic in your book, but from where I'm sitting...
