30. Get involved. Rate this highly. Join AfterDowningStreet.org
I am and have been enraged since the puke called Bush stole the 2000 election and Al Gore wimped out and had the Supreme Court make an illegal decision. Glenn Greenwald, perhaps the finest journalist since Edward R. Murrow, is absolutely hostile (a rare emotion for him) about the disgraceful and abusive tactics being used against Mr. Tamm. http://www.salon.com/opinion/greenwald/ This can NOT go without accountability and punishment.
Now what? Please, for love of Country, get involved. Here are a few organizations that I donate to and sign petitions for and I feel better for the time I spend. I could have come back from VN and just said- "there, I've done my part, now leave me the hell alone", but I didn't. Chances are one of these groups is near you. If not, form one of your own. God Bless America and to hell with the Bush administration-

17. K&R
This man is owed a debt of gratitude. This has, and will continue, to cost him personally. He seems very principled. I liked the way he was so matter of fact about that.

Now to see what is done, but I agree with many others. After January 20th I believe we will have alot of very pissed off career civil servants lining up to unload on these guys. Hell, the investigations could go clear into the next administration, and that is assuming eight years for Obama.

I hope he and his family are okay. I can't imagine how difficult this was for him. I'm not sure I would have had that kind of courage.

20. Three things
1) Hissyspit, I love your posts, and the ceiling cat.

2) Thomas Tamm overlooked a serious legal problem when he defended his co-workers and superiors who openly talked about the illegality of the warrantless wiretapping but did not blow the whistle. Legal professionals have an obligation to report crimes of which they have knowledge. In fact, anyone does. They could be disbarred for not reporting these crimes. They could be charged with obstruction, or as accomplices. Typically in such cases, prosecutors will let witnesses off in exchange for their testimony against the real criminals. If anyone wants to prosecute Bush administration officials for these crimes, there is plenty of leverage with which to compel witnesses to testify.

3) Whistleblowers fear loss of livelihood, that is, loss of their careers as well as jobs, probably more than anything else. To counter that, someone suggested a whistleblower award program. Whistleblowers whose stories pan out would be given awards of $1 million. They'd essentially become lottery winners. The thought was that this would bring whistleblowers out in droves and quickly result in corporate and political leaders avoiding corruption very carefully for fear, real fear, that their formerly cowed subordinates would jump at a chance to win the whistleblower lottery.

29. A Million?!?!?
I think you're shooting low. They win a million and then they are out of their chosen profession at $250k per year (avearge) for 20 years. No, we've got to give these people twice the absolute value of their earnings. Someone who's going to make $5 million over the next 20 years will turn and tell for $10 million now!

I'd give them a million for coming forward, another $2 million upon indictment, and another $7 million upon conviction.

Then people with inside information would be HIGHLY motivated to tell the american people what the heck is going on inside.

21. Another FINE American.....is this what it takes??
Do we, now, have to have the single citizens of this once great and proud nation stand up and scream for law and order against the government? Is the government so corrupt and decayed that it no longer functions for the rule of law.

We are a sick nation. It is past time to call these criminals for their crimes against the nation and the Constitution. I am sickened that we are worrying about whether or not President-elect Obama was born in the USA, or whether he was in cahoots with the governor of IL on selling his senate seat, or some other made up bull shit nonsense when there are LAWS broken by this administration, and NO ONE is held accountable. NO ONE!!

Impeach this son-of-a-bitch, his darth vader, his cabinet, the disgraced AG, and all the others responsible for driving our country into a huge pile of shit.

I am ashamed of my America...really ashamed.

maybe on Rachel's Air America radio show, that the New York Times didn't come out with the story for 18 months after Mr. Tamm reported it. The Bush regime kept the country under such tight control, one way or another.

36. Rachael/Tamm - terrific ... thank you! Tamm makes excellent point ...
about criticism that we hear here so often -- "we're not strong enough" to

prosecute, to follow our laws. We're strong when we do follow law -- and

when we do prosecute.

THIS is the kind of human being we need to rise in government --

for DOJ, Supreme Court -- and the kind being pushed aside to make way for criminals.
