I find this interesting and unintentionally funny. He's very wrong for saying it, but I think he actually believes what he's saying LOL.

3. Respect is what is needed
and using any form of the N word shows lack of respect. A teacher must model and show respect--by using that slang, the teacher lowered himself to the level of people using the slang.

9. YEE-owtch! Was this an old teacher or a freshly minted asshole?
Please tell me she got fired.

I just can't see how someone could go into teaching and not, at some level, love all kids.

11. She was a substitute teacher
Other kids heard her say it as well. By the afternoon the president of the PTA was on the horn, along with my parents. She was fired and not allowed to sub in our school again.

She would not allow me to leave the line to go to the bathroom, even though several other girls were allowed to go.

5. It appears the teacher was trying to connect with his students...
...and doing so by using what he perceived as common slang which is, unfortunately for him, a derivative of an offensive word. However, it still shows poor judgment on his part.

I don't believe he should be fired, though. It was clear he uttered the word, not in hate, but in trying to connect with his student.

7. I'm not sure I buy it.
Something about his tone doesn't ring sincere to me. And no 20-year veteran of an urban high school could possibly be that clueless, could they?

I think it probably slipped out, and then he invented this whole "I didn't say the "R", I was trying to connect to the kids" routine to try to save his own ass. Maybe even on advice of an attorney.

8. Woefully unprofessional. Trying to "connect" with students that way is immature, to say the least.
For the district to focus on the particular word is understandable, but it also misses the broader issue.

I wonder what he was suspended for before this incident? The man's attitude is pathetic.

10. I hate how these wusses always have to 'warn' viewers for 'strong language'...
Grow a pair, will you!
