Glad there are some prominent US figures not scared to stand up to Israeli goons and bullies.

1. Terrible spokesperson....
Regardless of what happened, this woman definitely had her own agenda to bark. What happened? Were you warned? Little if any information was shared by Ms. McKinney.

Certainly it's worth being informed and concerned about the relationship of the US and Israel. We have stuffed them with every imaginable weapon known to man. They have nuclear weapon capabilities, and NOTHING is even said about this.

The response to rockets from Hamas has been disgustingly aggressive and unjustly leashed on the civilians of Gaza as well as the enemy they are trying to punish. But we, the USA, back them 100% with this brutality. And then we wonder why the Arab world hates US?

Get real!

3. If you've ever been inside a sailboat cabin, you'd realize how terrifying
it must have been to be rammed on the side, where you were seated, by a large military boat.

I'd be barking, too. I thought she said everything that needed to be said -- & with great restraint, considering what she had been through.

6. reporter was a better spokesperson
McKinney is part of the Green party. Not sure why CNN thought they'd get a reliable story out of her. The reporter told more about what really happened. Which is basically what she said, but she's always had an agenda. That said, this is just a PR nitemare for Israel. If they aren't careful, they'll be holding the bag when one of their bombs goes off.

11. I'm not sure why being part of the Green party should mean that anyone has less credibility
the woman was on the boat. What would a member of the Democratic party or worse a Republican (regardless of whether or not they were on said boat) be considered more credible?

And so what if she has an agenda? So does anyone on the TV including the "neutral" anchor. (I think I prefer the British term of newsreader.)

and our elected officials are sitting by and letting the Israeli government bomb away on innocent people. When Israel is in the wrong we as a people need to stand up and speak with truthfulness. I have back Israel when terrorist target innocent people, but when Israel in the wrong, we need to speak up and not be afraid. I'm sorry, but our foreign policy are so unbalance when it come to Israel.

64. Sadly, it seems when someone of high potential finally gains power, they have compromised their ...
principles to such an extent that, they've convinced themselves "Israel has a right to protect itself." Like the moral of the story for Animal Farm: Some animals are more equal than others. So far the following proportion: 1 Israeli life to 400 Palestinian lives is A OK with our illustrious leaders that all the blame for the MURDERS can continued to be leveled at ONLY Hamas. :(

It's not racist or antisemitic to criticize the Israeli government. If it were, a lot of ISRAELIS could be considered racists and antisemites.

The Israeli government never had to lay siege to Gaza. The rockets would've stopped if only Gaza had been left alone. The siege is about preventing the establishment of a Palestinian state, because the IDF thinks Israel has to be at permanent war in order to survive.

Whenever the (corporate) so called MSM portrays someone the way they do people like Cynthia McKinney. THAT is someone most likely and truly representing working class folks and liberal ideas. Corporate America won't let someone like that become popular or else they can become a wrench in the corporate/political machine.

And that, thus, the Israeli Navy had no right to engage it militarily, don't you?

All they had to do was ask permission to board and then check the stuff to make sure it wasn't ordinance.

And reallt, the presence of a CNN correspondent and a former member of the U.S. Congress should've been proof enough that the Dignity's intentions were innocent.

49. The DU of old viewed her as a hero.
We saw that she had the courage to speak out on subjects no one wanted to touch, like who was really behind 9/11 and who benefited from it. She was one of the only Demcorats to speak at anti-war rallies before the invasion.

How DU has changed...

68. IMO DU has not changed overall, it's just that the corporate lovin' voices here are far more shrill
and, at times, overpowering.

Many of us know "the usual suspects" so to speak and choose not to engage them. The content is often dripping with vindictiveness and disinformation, their posts seemingly negate themselves to anyone who keeps up with the facts underlying current events.

The old time LIBERALS of DU are alive here but we also must choose our battles. :-) :hi:

81. Ah, the "usual suspects"...
Yup, I noticed them over on the other thread. :hi: I don't like letting disinformation like that stand -- we used to smack that shit down fast, not so much anymore. It just seems like there are so many more battles these days... :(

re. israel - only when and if the day arrives that we, the creator and supporter of israel, have the backbone to stand against their warmongers and support their moderates, will they EVER listen to anyone in the world.

As my rep once upon a time I couldn't stand her and her routinely inane, uninformed, cringe inducing, embarrassing, and sometimes downright stupid statements. BUT lets give her the benefit of the doubt here that this was not self serving attention whoring but a genuine attempt to do something good.

63. Count me with proudprogressive and
vinylsolution ... Cynthia does speak for the dispossessed and those who think of her as a *terrible spokesperson* have their own agendas as far as she is concerned, IMO.

Or perhaps they simply aren't *dispossessed* enough.

71. Some seem to miss
It is not being reported that the Hamas attacks may have been motivated by the 300+ Palestinians that have died of starvation. They have died thanks to the Israeli food and water blockades.

I don't think either side is right in this and 363 deaths plus 1400+ injured seems a bit extreme.

82. I was waiting for some context of what was happening...
by the media, and have found (surprise!) very little. Israel was getting hit with missles, end of story. I am a big fan of context and the "whys" of a situation - they are the only things that will help a person come to a real and deep understanding of that situation and the possible solutions. Sadly, the current US media is pretty much all one sided. :(

77. I was shocked that the Dignity had any MSM reporter on it, and I bet the
Israeli government was surprised they did too. You can remove McKinney from the equation here and it will not change the facts that were reported by the gentleman from CNN one bit. The Israeli government responded like thugs once again.

84. Are you serious, or is this a parody of the hate-sites?
If the former, then you're not needed on a liberal site, and might find David Duke's site more suitable.

If the latter, it might help to include the :sarcasm: icon.
