28. I was thinking the same thing
I always feel that I need to take a shower after watching videos of really religious people. Just like the co-host mentioned in Turks video, the people who have to announce things are the ones most likely to not do them. Otherwise, there would really be no need to be so public about it. There were so many aspects of this video that were just downright creepy.... from the father taking his daughter out on dates..... to the mother swearing that she is not jealous about it.... to the girl talking about how Jesus feels about her sex life. I am happy that the research study was completed because you just know that this will not work....now you have numbers to support it. One thought that I have is that if you make a public announcement about abstinence, it makes it even more difficult at that age to buy condoms or even bring up the topic. Maybe that is part of the reason that there is such a higher percentage of unprotected sex.

I also resent how they keep using the word "pure" in the context that they're using it. At any rate, you missed some interesting sexism in the second half of the video but I guess you can use your imagination.

22. Here is where I got lost on this purity ball thing
The father of 6 children, 5 of them girls -- he emphasizes the daughters establishing a purity pledge but no mention of the son having to be up to that standard. He certainly should clarify the son is being held to the same standard, eh?

If they think some sort of pledge to daddy will make a difference, great. But getting your daughters all dressed up and taking them on dates goes so far beyond that it should be a crime.

Of course it isn't anywhere near that. The latest studies seem to show that by age 21 there is little difference in the amount of sexual activity between the secular and abstinence based sex education.

Further the abstinence educated students were more likely to engage in riskier, and unprotected, sex than their more secular peers were!

It is just one giant fail. Billions in taxpayer dollars going into one massive waste of time with the result of increased risk for the children they so dearly love to hide behind.

Humans are going to have sex? Who would have thought?

37. It is definitely essential...
that girls know how to protect themselves, because boys aren't always prepared. My wife handled that, mainly because it would be more comfortable coming from her mother than her stepfather. She was on the pill, but condoms were also stressed as backup and disease protection. When you have a boy, you worry about one dick. When you have a girl, you worry about ALL of them :)

Chicago (March 11, 2008) – A CDC study released today estimates that one in four (26 percent) young women between the ages of 14 and 19 in the United States – or 3.2 million teenage girls – is infected with at least one of the most common sexually transmitted diseases (human papillomavirus (HPV), chlamydia, herpes simplex virus, and trichomoniasis).

29. Yes. Yes they will.
One of the logical end results of this extreme sexism is homosexual activity between boys. Think about it. You exalt men as leaders and warriors; you relegate women to the status of prize and broodmare. Eventually, it will occur to the boys that men are more interesting, more powerful, more worthy of esteem. It doesn't have anything to do with not holding them to a standard of purity that no one, especially not the girls, measures up to.

32. Fundamentalpatients: It's all fun and games until someone loses a hymen.
Stupid. These guys are nothing but Dominionist pedo-bears who want nothing more than to reverse time when the "FEE-MAIL knew her place, and that would be to serve the MAN!"

A comment that struck as true on the YouTube vid was that it's scary how giant these fundamentalpatient families are. Talk about skewing the meaning . . . most Christians are merely harmless people who just want to go to church and feel at one with their spirituality. These people use it as a platform to control and then rule; all with the white man at the helm, of course. With their ever-increasing quantities, it's just more danger for the "Army of God" to become an eventuality.

43. These promises cannot be understood by such young girls.
What if they don't marry until their 30's, or not at all? They'll not have sex???? Riiiiiiight!

Also to insinuate that anyone having sex before marriage is 'impure', is both insulting and cruel.

I respect a father that is reaching out to his daughter and opening up healthy dialogue, but to ask a daughter to 'belong' to him before she 'belongs' to her husband is not treating her as a sentient being. These daughters are agreeing to be 'owned', and the old labels of 'good woman' and the 'other kind of woman' is brought into the present day, but with new names. This practice is very destructive, to insinuate that by seeking pleasure they will be impure, tainted and worthless....while the men can go out and do as they wish and still maintain 'pure' status!! Bring back the Dark Ages!!

A nice exercise in futility, and a just another way to feel 'superior' to the vast hoards of heathen running about, IMHO.

Your Republicans/Conservatives display the worst and most damaging hypocrisy when it comes to issues of sexuality.

They get elected on and or preach about family values, how gays destroy marriage and bash premarital sex, that is until they get caught with their pants down.

50. The prepubescent girls knew what words to say but didn't seem all that enthusiastic about it.
They look kind of weirded out. Mumbling about God and being made fun of. Pointing out the overly adult dresses they were going to wear on a night out with Daddy. All so very creepy.

Now when these girls eventually have sex, they get all the added guilt of letting down Daddy after he took them on all those dates.

54. Yeeccccccch!
These people make me want to take a long hot bath after watching this. I was thinking how perverted all this really is. A father giving his daughter a ring like that is inappropriate as hell and so is the "dating" concept. This whole thing rates about a thousand on the "squick-o-meter". I predict that you will see an increase in father-daughter incest with this crap.

Check out the another video there about the girl giving daddy back her "purity ring" at the altar, i.e., when she goes from being Daddy's property to being Hubby's.

There's so much more I could say about this, but going to take a nice long hot shower with anti-bacterial soap and a large dose of anti-nausea medication.
