1. Dates are a Middle Eastern Staple.

And a signifigant source of nutrition and fiber. They want these people on bread and water. And not much of that.

2. From the report...since November Israel has been severely

restricting aid convoys to the Gaza strip.

In mid December the UN had to stop distribution of food to 750,000 people...for the first ever.
