I received this video in my email inbox yesterday, along with the email below. On Tuesday, when Rick Warren takes the stage, perhaps everyone can log on to the Internet and click "play" on this alternative invocation instead.

Greetings Democratic Underground!

Having perused democraticunderground.com over many a warm cup of coffee, we were hoping we might be able to provide you with some excellent news information.

Back in December, Barack Obama chose Rick Warren to deliver his 2009 invocation this coming Tuesday, January 20th. Rick Warren has been a consistent and outspoken opponent of abortion, gay marriage and stem-cell research.

In light of the questionable decision to feature Warren, the congregation at CBST (Congregation Beth Simchat Torah, CBST.org) asked Rabbi Sharon Kleinbaum to film a warm and inclusive alternative invocation that the country can be proud of and feel welcomed by.

We hope you'll choose to post about this video. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AWq4WBZogXU

If you have any questions, please feel free to email me.

Kind regards,
Adrian
CBST

5. Why isn't she...
the Invocation speaker? She knows more about faith, respect, love, and decency than Rick Warren probably ever will.

9. Because she didn't invite Obama to her Church
and she pobably doesn't have the access to money that warren does.

10. Thanks for that Skinner!
It came at a very good time, because I had just wiped my eyes after reading the thread about the wonderful Mike Malloy and watching the video about the Palestinian doctor, who had just lost his family.
We live in such fragile and difficult times, that to hear Rabbi Sharon Kleinbaum's wonderful message, was godsend, whether I believe in him or not.

I would be an optimist, too.

19. He reminds me of the kid in Deliverance
that was sitting on the porch with all that squinting he does. I keep waiting for him to start giggling and play "Dueling Banjos". :yoiks:

22. I don't like him either, but I will give him this
he stays completely out of politics, AFAIK.

He lost me on that kerfluffle with his wife and the flight attendant, though. Not that I know if there was anything to it or not (the jury said not), but that they were flying first class.

23. In defense of his wife, the article I read about the incident
made it sound like the stewardess was probably making up stuff to get a big settlement. I think she only had one other person back up her story, out of all the people on the plane.

24. Oh, yeah, I didn't mention it because of that
the flight attendant looked like a flake on the local news. It was the flying first class part that lost me.

26. He is not an opponent of abortion......
Edited on Sun Jan-18-09 10:52 PM by pauldg0
He was on Larry King and he believes that science is our future. He does not think gays are sinners.....your right, he stays completely out of the political side. No pro this or anti that.

Sit down and listen to him......he is no Rick Warren, trust me. He was the Evangelist of the year last year!!!????

You folks sound like the ones who were the initiators of Obama being a terrorist Muslim.

Any way, I just thought I would throw that idea your way.

Sorry you didn't like it!! Hardly matters anyway....it's to late!!

17. Thank you for posting and to Rabbi Sharon Kleinbaum
Wonderful message of hope. I appreciate the post as I am sure many do. It is such a personal thing with so many of us, gay and straight.

May God bless America and President-elect Obama in all future endeavors.

20. That's the closest thing yet to being inclusive.
Edited on Sun Jan-18-09 06:47 AM by ColbertWatcher
Too bad it would still be an un-Constitutional prayer (if it were used instead of Warren's screed).

25. That was wonderful. And my style of progressive. It's amazing how a message
that contains peaceful and ... here's the word again ... inclusive words that are sincerely delivered can make you feel like you are healing. A great idea, Skinner. It's a creative alternative.
