2. Crime is not a matter of politics. It is a matter of law.
If the incoming Congress and Justice Department are unwilling to prosecute crimes, they are derelict in their duty and should be removed.

It's really not Barack's call.

5. Pelosi is talking this crap now because she realizes she'll be investigated for her failure
to uphold her office. She's complicit in her refusal to investigate, so now she's talking out of both sides of her mouth in an effort to escape blame and possible culpability along with the criminals she tacitly protected.

6. I think they are all tap dancing around this issue because
they are waiting for Bush to be gone, for his pardon's to be cast and to not give these criminals any notice re which direction they will come for their sticking lying hides.

I find this more encouraging than before. For Pelosi to say that they do not have the choice to ignore what has happened... this is good news.

11. Absolutely.
If you are trying to hook criminals who think nothing of killing their opponents as a way to deter others, why come at them straight on? That would be suicide at best - and would ultimately fail.

If it were me and my game to win, I would act weak and ineffectual until they had played all their cards and then hit them with all that I had. )Mixed metaphors but it's been a long day here!)

Anyone who remembers watching the Masterpiece Theater classic 'I Claudius' knows that routine. It's the only way Claudius won out in the end. The crazies thought he was an ineffectual idiot and so was not a threat to be suicided or removed from power as he was thought to have no power.

21. I think it will happen.
If nothing happens on this front in the first 6 months, I will be at the front of the line protesting. But I don't think we will have to worry about it. I have seen the new meme 'we don't have a choice BUT to prosecute' in a few places this past week.

Me too and the FOX news tool is trying every way in the world to get her to lay more cards out on the table so bush can pardon people before he heads back south. I think BushCo is going to have a lot of splainin' to do.

23. I think that is what this interview was all about.
Haven't seen Pelosi on this program in a loooooong time. Goofnuts was tasked with getting her to say what the plan was - she was awkward in her reply but I will take her reply as 'she didn't say no'. There was no 'off the table' rhetoric. And speaking of awkward, how did you like his blatent spin of what Obama said last weekend?

Lots of splainin' to do.

25. What if Obama told a bare faced lie?
Edited on Mon Jan-19-09 08:37 AM by Hubert Flottz
He never did it under oath...he never did it in a state of the union speech...he never knowingly and repeatedly lied to start an illegal war in Iraq...I could understand, respect and forgive Mr. Obama in a heartbeat, if he lied in order to keep a bunch of criminals from escaping the punishment that they so clearly have earned.

The cops lie to people under interrogation all the time, to get them to admit guilt and to make a case.

26. I think he 'prevaricated' but didn't lie.
And George Snuffalopalous is such a lightweight thinker, he didn't call him in it or he is much smarter than I thought and allowed him to do that.

Wouldn't be surprised if Eric Holder isn't preparing materials on some of this right now. Bottom line - Obama needs to stay above the fray politically. For him to go into attack mode would be suicide for his unity plans which include bringing our economy back. This has to be seen as his appointees following the 'Rule of Law' or it just won't fly with the RW wingnuts.

He meant it when he said he wanted to look forward and not backward. I want that too. But for me, looking to the past and addressing the problems/crimes committed is the only way we can look forward to a positive outcome for the country.

Obama is a smarty. He knows constitutional law backwards/forwards. He knows how important it is that it is respected and followed to the letter or we don't have a country.

I think Justice might take off her blind fold, set aside her scales that are heavily weighted on the right side, and start looking as to how to start balancing to the left.

15. I really, really hope your right....
But it seems all I have to cling to is hope.... Democrats more and more seem completely unwilling to fight for what's right and I think this whole "we have to look forward and not look back" bullshit is exactly what makes Republicans think they can do whatever the hell they want when they get in power... Democrats now haven't the spine to do anything about it... and this is what happens when you have DLC/Right-Leaning Dems in power. They're too close to the corrupt to do anything about it (or many times they fear their own implication in these crimes). It's also why we should never recruit Republicans to run as Democrats by having them change the letter next to their name and not demanding any changes in their ideology.

If these clowns were in charge during Nixon's Presidency, he would have served out his second term with no fear of facing any penalties oncesoever.

16. I'M BETTING ON NEW A.G. TO MAKE A MOVE ON PROSECUTING.
Edited on Mon Jan-19-09 01:13 AM by Left Coast2020
I watched his confirmation hearing on C-Span and I have a feeling he feels like we do. It won't happen out of the box, but in time when some of the dust settles from Inaugural, economy legislation, etc, I think he'll make a move. Remember? We're thinking in terms of poker. I also heard, or read somewhere that a repug stated in an interview that there may be some re-pug's who are nervous if he is confirmed. Hmmm? Wonder what he meant by that? I found that statement very intriguing.

24. Okay, let's open the doors on every prison in America and
forget about what the "Have Nots" have done in the past too.

I'll bet Charlie Manson would go for that kind of a forget the crimes we did in the past deal as much as Karl Rove, Cheney and Bush would. If the have nots are not "Above the law" then the "Haves and the Have Mores" shouldn't be "Above the law" either.

We punish criminals so that they won't commit crimes again. It's the whole reason we have cops, courts, judges, laws, "Law Makers" and jails, supposedly. We are either "A Nation Of Laws" of we are a Nation Of Outlaws.

27. Wait until they are out of office, then investigate
The sitting administration has vast powers to obstruct an investigation. Once the Republicans are out of office they will be far more vulnerable. When this is coupled with the control of the committees by the Democrats, a more profitable investigation can be conducted. Any attempt by Republican representatives to quell a through investigation will make them highly vulnerable to the charges of obstructionism. These charges can be used effectively to discredit their attempt for reelection and expose them as being facilitators of corruption and abuse of power by the Bush administration.

Any refusal by the ousted regime to testify could amount to a trial in absentee by the press. A critical factor is that the press has been managed by the Republican administration by the fascist tactic of threats of black-listing of reporters. This is a weapon that they now will be totally deprived of once they are out of office. Democrats can now bring pressure on the media to expose to public view the extent of the abuse of power that has taken place over the last eight years.

It could be a dark period in the history of the Republican Party if this is properly managed by Democrats. I am not as concerned with the actual punishment of the major players, Bush, Cheney, Rumsfelt, Perle, Wolfowitz, etc. but with the total destruction of the fascists neo-cons and the complete humiliation of Republican Party as it is today.

It must be totally discredited and the damage that their policy of unrestrained greed has done to the Republic must be fully exposed. This ranges from unjust tax reductions for the most wealthy to deregulation and out-sourcing that have been fueled by their out right greed and have led to the collapse of the economic system. Nothing is more damnable than their abuse of power to launch an unjust war solely gain control of Middle East oil reserves.

It must be made clear that the policies that originated with the Reagan administration when he lauched a vicious war on the middle class and which were taken to the extreme by the Bush-Cheney administration have brought the nation to the point of implosion. The only hope for the future of the nation is the unequiviacal condemnation of these wrong headed abuses of power and the demand for total transparency in the government of the nation. The nation must rededicate itself to the principle that our representative form of government is meant to be that elected representatives represent the people of their district and they are foremost not the representatives of special interest lobbyists whose only interest is self enrichment. Hopefully Barack Obama's message of total inclusion as opposed to exclusion will materialize.
