For the past thirty years this band has been the heart, soul and soundtrack of hope for the world. It is only fitting that they usher in the Obama presidency.

I saw more joy in Bono's and Edge's faces today than in the the last thirty years.

4. when I went to the Lincoln Memorial last summer I thought to look at the steps
and found the little plaque about where Dr. King stood. I was astounded how many people were just stomping right across it on their way down from Lincoln's chair.

6. One of the lyrics changed: "Early morning, April 4th...
In the concert he instead sang "Early evening, April 4th..."

9. 'City of Blinding Lights'
how fitting for U2 to play that song live, that was the moment for
me because that song's words has deeper meaning than people realize.

The lyrics are just awesome, it's no coincidence that Obama and his
team chose that song as a theme song for his campaign.

Thats why you see the delight in Bono and Edge's face, they know that
this is FOR REAL, not your pretenders or fake politicians as majority
of Americans are used to and these guys have met plenty politicians in
their time.

No small matter, I don't expect most of you here to understand
these sentiments, I know most will get it.

10. Awesome
Two of my favorite bands U2 and Springsteen at the same event. If I was there it would be heaven.

Great of them to pitch in!

Thank you!

15. City of Blinding Lights is one of his favorite songs
I heard that one NPR.

Here's a link to the significance in his campaign
Backstage Pass blog 1/4/2008
Obama and U2's "City of Blinding Lights"
(snip)
As these decisions go, Sen. Barack Obama’s choice to mark his victory in the Iowa caucuses on "this January night, at this defining moment in history” with U2's "City of Blinding Lights" was a remarkable one. Not only does the song, about putting aside learned jaded responses and trusting enough to believe again, show that Obama is sophisticated enough to understand its nuances, but it shows that he believes that his followers will be sophisticated enough to get the message as well. (Either that or he thinks the chorus "Oh, you look so beautiful tonight" will just make people feel good about themselves or confuse it with "Beautiful Day." Sorry, some jaded slipped through.)

City Of Blinding Lights lyrics

The more you see the less you know
The less you find out as you go
I knew much more then than I do now

Neon heart, day-glow eyes
The city lit by fireflies
They're advertising in the skies
And people like us

And I miss you when you're not around
I'm getting ready to leave the ground

Oh you look so beautiful tonight...
In the city of blinding lights

Don't look before you laugh
Look ugly in a photograph
Flash bulbs, purple irises the camera can't see

I've seen you walk unafraid
I've seen you in the clothes you've made
Can you see the beauty inside of me?
What happened to the beauty I had inside of me?

And I miss you when you're not around
I'm getting ready to leave the ground

Oh you look so beautiful tonight...
In the city of blinding lights

Time...time....time...time...time...
won't leave me as I am
But time won't take the boy out of this man
Oh you look so beautiful tonight
Oh you look so beautiful tonight
Oh you look so beautiful tonight

In the city of blinding lights,
The more you know
The less you feel
Some pray for, others steal
Blessings not just for the ones who kneel, luckily

16. This version was changed to fit the occasion..
start of the 2nd verse
"America let your road rise
under Lincoln's unblinking eyes.."

and another..."America is ready to leave the ground" in the chorus..

this is a great version..IMHO
