I got that book a few years ago for Christmas and was wondering if I should read it, since Warren became known. Now I know I should tear out the pages and use them to train the dog where to shit.

3. Scary-funny . . .
No, I haven't ever read Rick Warren (and have no intention of starting now), but the notion that otherwise rational adults can read such tripe and think that it's providing them with some sort of insight . . . well, it makes me wonder about the truth of evolution itself, since we appear to be moving the other way.

4. "Error ... you've already recommended that thread!"
I'm a Unitarian-Universalist, who is essentially a transcendentalist, and am essentially a believer in the One ... and I thought it was funny.

Maher and I agree ... the only thing one can know is that we don't know.

5. When did he do this? Terrific.
Two things I got out of this.

1. I have continually written that Bush was all about:

Loyalty <> Reward
and
Betrayal <> Revenge

That's what I got from Warrens' words.

2. Warren's version of the Bible also has God sounding like the Mafia.
God - the big boss.
Some members brought pleasure by their obedience.
Others didn't.

Ultra simplistic.

13. Very funny - thanks
Normally I consider "books" like that boring and depressing, but Maher's ridicule of it just highlights Warren's hilarious vapidity.

17. Holy Crap!! More, MORE!!! That kind of contempt
needs to be poured on that kind of moronic, simplistic, "I know the mind of God" writing. Bravo Maher! More!!!

And, Moses? REALLY? The guy who got so drunk and wasted that he passed out naked in his tent and had to be covered up by his sons? Heck of a role model.

27. Can anybody explain to me what did Ham do that was so bad?
I have read Genesis in its entirety, but there's so much random nonsense like this in it, that I can't make any sense out of it. And I wonder why the fundies think it all makes perfect sense.

19. Warren plays off as a everyman but he is really the public face of the O.C. fundies
The oddest part is that Warren is nothing more than the stoner freshman spewing generalities to try to sound not stoned. With Warren though he is doing it to take the edge off. I love that he doesn't actually quote scripture- a novel approach to an old schtick.

;)

The funny thing is: Bill could actually just have read Warren's book without any commentary and it would have been exellent stand-up material!
