At the National Press Club, in Washington, D.C., on Jan. 21, 2009, the "Bring the Guard Home! Its the Law" campaign held a press conference. One of the speakers was Jean Athey of "Maryland, Peace Action". She said that her group is proposing legislation to the General Assembly of Maryland that would "require the Maryland National Guard only to be called into federal service for legal purposes and that in the absence of legal authority, the Maryland National Guard should stay within the state." She added: "The primary purpose of the Guard, we believe, is to defend the state of Maryland and not to be a backdoor draft."

The way Bush used these weekend warriors in Iraq is nothing short of traitorous. Perhaps they expected to go for the next world war three, but they sure didn't sign up to serve in a war of choice that was utterly not necessary to protect the US.

The way the Nat Guard has been mis-used the last eight years is yet another fuck you from GWB to the American People.
