When the government of the city of Sandy Springs in Georgia decided to bring in a multinational corporation to run all of the city's services - with the exception of police and firefighting - it effectively became the first fully privatized city in the world.

It's a trend that is already spreading fast, with four new cities launched in the last three years, all of them run by the same company, defence contractors CH2M Hill.

1. Here I thought the movie Robocop was cheesy Sci-Fi.
Who thought the nightmare of a corporate run city could be possible? :sarcasm:

2. There's an easy answer to this privatization scam
The county should put toll booths just outside every road leading into and out of that privatization zone. Every time someone leaves or enters their city, charge them. Nickel and dime these greedy and racist bastards and those that support them to death. That will show them what the true cost of privatization is.

4. This is really creepy. Do they run the city's schools as well?
Do they collect subscription fees instead of taxes? Do the residents have the same legal recourses as residents of a regular city have?

6. They should send the people who are starting the
"Ministry of Love" down to Gitmo to learn the techniques before it shuts.

7. inner-city Atlanta to be the next Gaza strip?
On a very basic level, this is the notion -- to sequester the poor from the rich and moreover, to divide the country into a series of walled-off, privatized Ayn Randian dystopias complete with giant defense contractors "keeping the peace."

and I thought Florida was eff'd-up.
