Cenk Uygur of TYT (The Young Turks) would be a great choice because:

1)-He's made huge inroads with New Media. The TYT youtube channel reached over 63 million views in 18 months which is astounding for anyone familiar with the format. Cenk would represent an inevitable and invaluable bridge between cable news and the internet.

2)-Building off of #1, Cenk could bring in an untapped, younger demographic. You know, all those young people who got involved this last election aren't necessarily interested in listening to yet another old white guy on TV.

3)-He's had an insanely impressive guest list which includes: , Arianna Huffington, Ted Kennedy, Michael Moore, Alan Greenspan, Grover Norquist, , Naomi Klein, John Cusack and way too many others to name. Imagine who he could get on MSNBC?

4)-It would add some diversity. Viewers are ready for change, and that includes the aesthetics/background of their talk show hosts. After all, we did just elect "Barack Hussein Obama".

5)-His style and delivery are very different from both Maddow and KO. And he's proven his tv presence with his stints on CNN-HN, like when .

PS---Even if he doesn't get the job, this resume should be MORE than enough to give him a platform as a guest pundit on existing shows.

1)-Anyone who knows anything about the future of media and information knows that New Media IS the future. Radio and print journalism are dying, and even television has taken quite a big hit. That trend is going to continue as you *should* well know. It's inevitable. So as much you want to mock youtube, getting 63 million views in 18 months is astounding and a great achievement. When you mock New Media, you sound like someone in the 80's mocking the VHS format, or in the 90's mocking DVD's and MP3's.

2)-TYT is also on Air America and XM Radio. If you want to bash Air America that's fine, but I'd like you to be an equal opportunity basher. Bash Rachel Maddow and Thom Hartmann as well (and do it in the threads of their fans). After all, they're also on Air America Radio. You can argue that they're more credible because of X, Y and Z, but you must concede that your youtube argument is personal and has no actual substance.

Finally, when you bash TYT as youtube garbage, you also trash the brilliant top notch guests that I'm sure you would LOVE to interview. You generically throw out titles whereas I gave you specific names (Maddow, Ted Kennedy, Nancy Pelos, Harry Reid, Alan Greenspan, Michael Moore, Mel Brooks, etc.). Why is Cenk such a sacred cow to so many people here?

We've had well over a decade now of the right biasing all the information. I DO NOT want to see our side do it in some tit-for-tat petty revenge crap. Way too many people on DU want to, though. Anytime we have people start to talk about a journalist as if they are infallible, then we run the risk of doing just that.

In fact, he's said many times on the air that he's NOT a journalist. He gives commentary and shares his opinions.

Keith Olbermann had Cenk on Countdown because he loved Cenk's idea to have Fox News labeled as "opinion media". Because the problem is not that Fox exists, it's that they pretend to be objective news. BTW, the Netroots convention embraced and employed Cenk's idea last summer (as described in the New York Times).

So once again, you don't have to like Cenk, but don't criticize him for not being a good journalist. If that's your big problem I've taken care of it for you and no further discussion is necessary.
