26. Very fishy -- see this article on what "executive privilege" means
http://www.brennancenter.org/content/resource/background_on_executive_privilege/

Yup, might well be that smelly fish are hidden here under "executive privilege" claim, especially when you consider the circumstances under which such a claim may be made (see article).

2. I don't how he can do that

Its Bullshit! and if I was a congress critter, and someone gave me a bullshit answer without saying anything, I'd say "your either ignorant, stupid or hiding the truth. Which is it?"

5. Did Bush admin order them not to investigate scams?
Sure looking that way.

14. Remember Poppy Bush . . . what was it he said by accident . . .
Edited on Thu Feb-05-09 11:45 PM by defendandprotect
"Oh, what a wonderful recession!" . . . . ??? something like that !

When what he meant to say was "Oh, what a wonderful reception!"

Well, for Republicans, a Depression would be even better ---

Plus people like them get to make off with a lot of money ---

And the losers, like Massachusetts -- a liberal state --- not much to their liking!

The legal ice they are floating on is melting, cant wait to see them flailing in the water.

23. No; this is pure B.S.
He, and the others, happen to be heads of offices at SEC now, so they were stuck having to appear. SEC surely screwed up, and these were asked 'how do you do business.' They tried to explain in general ways, and some were more clear than others. Few if any over there probably have figured out what actually happened to the tip-offs.

16. Obviously, SECRET Swiss Bank accounts are a threat to democracy . . .
Of course, it could be anywhere, any way --

I'm sure these criminals have advanced ways of laundering money and

hiding it.

But . . . somewhere there must be some breadcrumb trails to following the money???

10. If I ever saw the case made
for what went on during the French revolution, and why it happened, that just made it. No wonder they stormed the Bastille, no wonder why they yelled "off with their heads". This woman & man made the case for that as a modern time event all by themselves. They really don't get it, or how angry the populace can get.

11. Their objections are because the matters are under investigation;
they can't discuss the facts of pending cases. Shouldn't be so difficult for people (like ackerman) to understand.

17. That's ridiculous . .. they were asking them about procedures. . .
how they followed the leads. Who determined they weren't worthy.

Obviously, these people were beginning to get frightened --- but they had

been selected because they are good at saying nothing. I'd say they're not

entirely secure in their belief that they'll be protected by those who put

them up to not investigating. Evidently, the Chairman, got pretty pissed when

some one of them began to suggest that they didn't have to appear -- didn't have

to answer questions from Congress. There's a lot of that garbage that Bush/Cheney

people circulated and their followers quickly took up and into their hearts!

It's more than just being frightened that this powerful guy could destroy

their careers . . . because they could have turned whistleblower, as well, had

they had any consciences and any real concern for the nation and the people.

I don't think that was the problem . . . . I think the instructions from Bush/Cheney

were the problem.

12. I love that Ackerman cut thru the BS the way he did.
Ihave not seen a hearing that riveting since Gonzales, and Lorita Doan.

Didn't you get the impression these SEC guys were trying to hard to cover up the fact they have done ZERO for their paychecks for years.?

20. Yes . . . on the cover . . . which looked a little shaky to me as the questions
went on --

These people are nervous -- probably with good cause.

I think they know they are vulnerable --

At least two from SEC went on to work for Madoff???

Doesn't look like it would take much to collapse this whole thing on them.

13. Ackerman was terrific -- kinda like the old days with Democrats who acted ...
like Democrats --

It was interesting to see that slight hint picked up by Ackerman ---

I would have liked to have heard a question about WHERE, WHEN, WHO had discussed

this and with WHOM . . . !!!

This guy didn't dream this up himself.

These 2 folks really did drag out their answers. I think it was partly an effort to lecture the congressman, but also to get and stay off his very pointed questions.

I don't think so --- they should have had to take it ---

I think we would have seen very much more nervous people had they been under oath.
