5. Obama took the high road in the beginning...
got his hand bit twice by the republicans and now he can come out and say that he tried but the republicans don't want to cooperate. I think Obama was a little slow coming out of the gate but lets hope he continues to hit the republicans were it hurts.

17. "Obama was a little slow coming out of the gate"
I think he was just giving the repukes a chance to come to the table and act like adults. They choose to act like, well like republicans instead, which he probably expected they would. Now he knows what to expect from them, and has shown the people that he tried bringing them into the conversation, but they insisted on being obstructionist during a national, nay global emergency. I suspect there is nothing in the way this has played out that Obama didn't at least anticipate, if not expect. He has managed to position himself nicely to now play hardball with them and probably maintain if not improve his poll numbers at the same time. It's been said before, but it bares repeating, he is a chess player among checkers players.

my Mom went to visit Hyde Park and brought me back a t-shirt with the poster on it. I wore it on election day when I went to vote.

11. This reminds me of the campaign
When Obama was "playing nice" in the weeks leading up to the convention and everyone was screaming bloody murder about how he needed to hit them hard back, and how he was screwing up and we should have picked a fighter like Hillary, and then he came out and gave a convention address where he hammered McCain and set up his massive November win. Barack loves to give his enemies all the rope they need to hang themselves, and then he comes up and kicks out the chair. Good thing the Repubs are stoopid enough to fall for it, every time.

Obama knew exactly what he was doing, publicly asking for bipartisanship while at the same time daring them to defy their boy Rush. He knew the Repubs would rally around Rush, and now he gets to make them look like the assholes they are, and everybody watching at home has to say, "well, he tried to bring them on board."

Best politician I have ever seen.

12. Well, there's just one problem with that.
The stimulus bill is watered down nonsense at this point. That's not just my opinion or Cenk's opinion or Rachel Maddow's opinion, it's also the opinion of many respected economists (like Paul Krugman).

I'm all for bipartisanship IF it results in or coincides with passing brilliant legislation. Unfortunately in this case the stimulus plan doesn't even come close. It was stripped of most of the good stuff and it's become bloated with terrible Republican tax cuts.

It's very disheartening.
