...I bristled at that "Democrats, *and* Republicans..." came together yadda yadda yadda...
Let's see. In the Senate, it was Democrats, and two or maybe three at the outside Republicans.
That is not compromise, that is more of the same partisan bullshit by the Republics who brought us to this pass in the first place with their unquestioning lockstep votes in favor of every spending bill that Boosh put in front of them, and their continuing lockstep in favor of tax cuts and against social spending in any form, especially if proposed by the Democrats.
Time to get out the big stick, President Obama. These people need a smackdown in the worst way. You can bash Bush's policies, and rightly so -- I'm okay with continuing to include that in your speeches. But it's time to start quoting some of the Republican governors' comments about how they need spending on education and infrastructure in their states. Use it to hang the distress of the states around the Congressional Republics' necks and cudgel them into submission. This also drives a wedge between Republic governors and congress critters, an added bonus.
These people have been using Taliban tactics for the last 8 years. It's about time they got some serious blowback. Right now the blowback is barely causing a ripple on their well-coiffed heads. They are still being allowed to grandstand, they are still getting the advantage on the airwaves. There's no point in trying to compromise with them -- what do we get for it? Billions in good stimulus spending gets taken out of the bill, to be replaced with demonstrably less effective tax cuts. And we get 2, maybe 3 extra votes. And I'm not all that sure those 2 or 3 Senators won't turn around and stab us in the back anyway.
That is not being a statesman, that is being a chump.
Some advice: The American people want to see something done. The American people also want to see someone FIGHTING for them. We don't care about the back room deals, we're not privy to all that. Get out there on the floor, Senators, and speak up for us. Fight the obstructionists. If necessary, make them filibuster, and then get out there on every program on TV and radio and the Internet and point out how the Republic obstructionists are blocking a jobs bill when we lost 600,000 jobs just last month.
Think about that number. Over half a million people lost their jobs in the USA, just last month. If that is not enough to light a fire under these dreadful little trolls then what the hell is???
