In 2008, Leon Panetta denounced torture as "illegal, immoral, dangerous and counterproductive." And on his first day of Senate testimony, Panetta blurted out the truth: the CIA used "extraordinary rendition" to send captives to despotic countries (like Egypt and Syria) for torture.

That inconvenient truth freaked out Sen. Kit Bond (R-MO), who demanded Panetta stop telling the truth. Sadly, Panetta immediately caved. And then Panetta promised to protect CIA torturers against prosecution. While this doesn't close the door to prosecuting those who ordered torture, Jonathan Turley is very concerned - and rightfully so.

I know Eric Holder will ultimately be the one responsible for investigations, but no one is showing any damned spine. I hope Panetta's just jackin' his jaw until he gets confirmed or life just became real fucked up. From now on.

I hope, after eight years of these criminals punking this country to war and all the civil rights we lost in the process, we're NOT going to ignore them now and hope it never happens again! COME ON! THIS ISN'T OVER UNTIL IT'S OVER. As much as Obama is trying to ignore this (and Brennan, Panetta, Clinton and Holder(?)), we MUST make them do the right thing! "Doing the right thing satisfies several and astounds everyone else"- Mark Twain. Come on guys, we are more powerful than you can imagine if we make a concerted effort to NOT let this be swept under the rug. We damned sure don't do our Country justice. Democracy isn't guaranteed, it's WORK!
Until I'm proven wrong, I believe SOS Clinton continued the threat that the Bush administration made to Britain about withholding intelligence info if they released torture evidence. Barack better recognize. They are ALL wanting this to go away and if they do, well you merely have a black sellout instead of a white one. K&R
