As an American during troubled times I am really disappointed, ( as I expressed to a rude member of your staff, who cut me off ) in your obstructionism of this important stimulus bill. After eight years of Republican failure, more of the same is just not an option, as one would expect common sense to convey. You yourself sir, in recordings aired during the election (which your side lost) admitted to a lack of understanding of the workings of the economy.
This is obvious now as time and time again, you and your party stand up in debate and refer to the current bill derisively as a "spending" bill. In the big picture of "supply and demand", supply is not the problem. We have plenty of resources from which to produce goods and services. We have plenty of able-bodied people to do the work. So the problem is with demand. Consumers are not buying, for a couple of reasons. One is lack of money due to obvious reasons, (hours/wage cuts, job loss, etc. ) and also because of a lack of confidence in our economy; many who do have jobs are afraid to make big purchases in this environment.
When consumers wont buy, someone has to create demand, and the government is the only entity in the position to do it. Infrastructure spending creates demand for materials and produces jobs. This is doubly warranted because there is much neglect in roads and bridge and other maintenance, so this work has to be done at some point soon anyway-why not do it now when it serves a double purpose?
Aid to States means more money for unemployment benefits which benefit the economy very fast as they mostly get spent very fast. Economists know that tax cuts do not give nearly the same return on "investment" as the aforementioned items do, and in any case, they have been tried for eight years and have only succeeded in making the gap between poor and extremely rich greater. The main beneficiaries of the Republican years have been the very wealthy. I know that they don't think there's much of a problem out here, many of your party's constituents are still rolling in gold.
It very clear that you and members of your party are deeply influenced by sean hannity and rush limbaugh. That's a shame because those two are very demonstrably flat-out liars and misleaders of their marginal fans. Looking to "Joe The Plumber " is no answer either. I can assure you that those three, and others of their ilk, would like nothing better than to see this President fail, and have no qualms about the country they claim to love and constantly wave the flag for, struggle in the process. I hope you will reconsider this wrong-headed obstructionism.
Thank you,
