5. Yeah go figure...
They(politicians) get promises of money for the next election and they(CEO's) get the vote now from
the politicians. The cycle continues despite the promises from the Obama administration.
I know it has only been a month but.........he had better stand up to the House and Senate now or
forever lose the trust of the rest of us.
:dilemma: Choose carefully Mr. President.

Listen up people, crime pays, and pays damn well. Do you really think anything is going to hurt these assholes in Congress? If so, please, get a life. Dems (like us....not the politicians) get all outraged when politicians do the wrong thing. (Can you imagine the rank and file Repugs calling out the GOP like this? They'd have already blamed everything on the "libruls")

Repugs (including the politicians) get all bent outta shape when someone does the right thing.

46. Two thoughts here:
1.) Claire McCaskill would know who took it out as she was so upset about it in the first place. I will call her office just to find out. Tho from Illinois, I sent her money to get in there in 06. She is a Blue Dog and annoyingly blows which ever way the wind blows, but I will call just the same.

2.) I am all for Cenk getting the MSNBC time slot but I doubt that they will give it to him. He speaks too much truth. Keith got away with doing what he does because he was already on board and it worked out that their ratings improved because of his ranting. Rachel is amusing and respectful of the whole process and is very very likable by both parties as she is so rational about it all. Cenk is my favorite over those two but I don't think he fits in a box and is not about to be curbed by protocol or niceties. His language is a bit rougher than theirs - and my concern is he will have less freedom to say what needs to be said if he gets on a Network show. I did sign the petition and join the facebook thing... I just don't see it happening the way he would like it too. Be careful what we wish for.

47. K & R . . Keep this active . . .
This is a continued example of the rich taking care of the rich . . . These congressional people between their given pay and the perks received from lobbyist are making way too much money. They have forgotten the needs and the difficulties of the working fellow making $30,000 a year. They need to trim their egos and begin representing those that put them in office. Any organization that receives tax payers money should have to agree to conditions such as salary and bonus caps ... if they don't like the conditions they don't have to accept the money. Plain and simple!

48. They are giving all of our money to the people who are screwing us and nothing to ...
those who are losing their jobs and homes. They reward the corporations that out source our jobs and offer us a job in the military killing so they can profit from their war machines. The people are cowards and sheepish and will not revolt against the rich congressmen and senators and media talking heads who are all in the back pockets of the super rich. I only see a small group who have done something which is to find out where these asscarrots live and surround their homes with enough people protesting to scare the hell out of them. Really, these rich asscarrots should be kicked out of our country for what they have done. They are all sociopaths and don't deserve to have us as customers and we just let them all get away with this massive theft of our money and jobs. As far as I am concerned the majority of our elected servants are my enemies and I am not so sure that Obama is not with them in this hand off to the rich ...the rich who caused this problem to begin with ...and they get rewarded for it ...it makes me mad as hell.

53. Let's All Take A Deep Breath
this does sound outrageous, but when you look at it more closely, it is not quite as outrageous as it first appears. A few things to clarify lest people think I am a closet Republican, or troll

I agree that executive compensation is ridiculous and a major (maybe even the greatest) factor in the growing disparity between rich and poor in this nation. If bonuses are incentives for good performance, it is wrong to give them out when the company does not perform well. It is a miscarriage of justice, beyond the pale to take taxpayer money because your firm would otherwise fail and then give executives bonuses.

So what? There really is nothing new in this society about redistributing wealth from the working class to the plutocrats. Corporate welfare has been a fact of life in this country for years. There's nothing new about rewarding executives with big bonuses for "downsizing" or saving money by screwing the worker, either.

President Obama proposed that going forward any firm receiving federal money would be subject to those limits. It's my understanding, that still applies. What was removed was a provision that would make it retroactive for companies that took money as part of the TARP passed last fall. It's outrageous no terms were put into place then, that we were dumb enough and panicked enough to assume these companies would do the right thing, but is it really right to start changing the terms of the agreement now?

Yes, the showmanship is annoying. After years of quietly caving and turning a blind eye to executive compensation; after years of allowing (or helping) the income gap in this country grow now Congress decides to make a show of how mad they are? After years of an American public blindly assuming that what was good for Wall Street was good for Main Street, now we're bitching about Executive compensation?

And yes, these executives need to be bribed to do their jobs. Why does it shock us that they love money more than country? Is it because they are not so blatant as to commit actual treason?

55. how about this from Sen Dodd
http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/money_co/2009/02/bank-pay-execut.html

Late fix in stimulus bill imposes tighter limits on bank pay
10:45 PM, February 13, 2009

The economic stimulus bill passed by the Senate on Friday includes curbs on executive pay that go well beyond what Wall Street had been expecting.

Sen. Christopher Dodd (D-Conn.), the chairman of the Senate Banking Committee, slipped the provisions into the bill late in the process. The entire stimulus package now heads to President Obama for his signature.

From the Washington Post:

The bill limits bonuses for executives at all financial institutions receiving government funds to no more than a third of their annual compensation. The bonuses must be paid in company stock that can be redeemed only when the government investment has been repaid.

Unlike compensation rules the White House had previously issued for executives of companies getting additional government capital, Dodd made his measure retroactive, the Post said:

The limits in the stimulus bill would apply to top executives and the highest-paid employees at all 359 banks that have already received government aid.
In a statement, Dodd said he was "delighted that my amendment to impose tough new limits on huge bonuses for executives working in firms that receive taxpayer funds will be included in the final economic recovery bill.

"The decisions of certain Wall Street executives to enrich themselves at the expense of taxpayers have seriously undermined public confidence in efforts to stabilize the economy. American taxpayers deserve better. With vigorous oversight by the Treasury Department and by Congress, these tough new rules will help ensure that taxpayer dollars no longer effectively subsidize lavish Wall Street bonuses.”

58. We've been hosed, did you read the fine print???
Well,

I finally got around to reading the finer details of the executive pay cap in the stimulus bill, and guess what!

Dodd and his buddies did us...

It seems that the "cap" isn't really real.

There is this little bit of legal boilerplate in the cap that says that it only applies to bonuses spelled in an executives contract SIGNED AFTER FEBRUARY 11th 2009.

What it means is ANY EXECUTIVE HIRED AFTER FEB. 11, 2009 gets capped, and any executive hired BEFORE FEB. 11, 2009 doesn't get capped unless they rewrite and resign their contract. Any bets on how many banking executives are going to do that?

And since the Banking Executive job market tanked, I bet the number of "newly hired" executives is close to ZERO which means NO EXECUTIVES are getting their pay capped.

Legalese, gotta love it, looks good on the surface, then it bites you.
