It is done". Beck couldn't believe that a fellow Fox news guy was shooting him down. Beck literally sat there with his jaw hanging down.

The fairness doctrine means nothing as long as ownership is still in the hands of a few. Look, the bottom line is that right wing talk radio works. People who are easily influenced by this crap are also the people who respond to advertisers. Liberals don't the way wingers do. Fux News knows that there's an audience for batshit crazy wingnuttery (or maybe just nuttery), but they don't want to make the MSNBC mistake and put on someone who'll get their asses sued all the time and maybe get the FCC interested. So they put on a Beck and tell him "the crazier the better -- just not actionable." And because like O'Reilly he's really just a stand-up comedian who's not very funny, he does what they want. And laughs all the way to the bank.

What's scary are the people who don't realize that Beck and O'Reilly and Hannity and the rest of them are just entertainers, and think they're actual commentators or (fates forfend) *journalists*.
