A simple "nay" vote wasn't enough for Republican Congressman John Boehner this afternoon, as the $787 billion stimulus package headed toward passage: While speaking before C-SPAN cameras, the House leader had to toss all 1,073 pages of the bill onto the august chamber's floor in disgust.

Holding a massive white stack of paper in his hand, Boehner registered his disdain -- shared by every other Republican House member, all of whom voted against the bill -- by noting that no one has read it.

"Here I have 1,100 pages not one member of this body has read. Not one. There may be a staffer in the Appropriations Committee that read all of this last night. Not one member's read this," Boehner said. "What happened to the promise that we're going to let the American people see what's in this bill for 48 hours?"

President Obama's Democratic allies powered the bill to a 246-183 victory, but not one of the president's Republican critics broke ranks to support the measure, as attention shifted to a likely Senate vote late in the day.

His district includes the northern suburbs of Cincinnati, where WLW-Radio is endless RW talk radio. His district also includes much of west central Ohio, which is largely conservative farm communities primarily made up of Catholics who follow the rhetoric of the Right to Life nazis. Drive around that area and you'll see BARNS with a huge picture of a human fetus painted on them.

Meanwhile, the economic and political climate is changing rapidly and Boner will be oblivious to it. A neighboring district has an even bigger flaming asshole in Jim Jordan. His story reminds me of Al Bundy on the TV sitcom "Married With Children." Just like Al reminds everyone about his 4-touchdown performance for Polk High, all Jordan runs on was that he was this he-man wrestler in high school and college, and the people fawn over him for that.

Why the short timeframe from the updated version to the vote? It actually seems like a reasonable point to me. At risk of sounding like I am contradicting msyelf, we all know that they would still all vote no even if they did read it, so I would like to see more people call them on this and say "So, the only reason that the republican party has banded together against voting on it was because they haven't read it?"

I did see a video earlier of an interview with Debbie Wasserman Schultz and Brian Billbray and she totally owned his ass. He tried using the same logic of "I didn't have time to read it" and Chris Matthews mentioned that "You have had access to 95% of it for weeks". In short, they broke that argument apart pretty easily. Then he went through a laundry list of reasons and as Chris Matthews and Debbie Wasserman Shultz destroyed each one of his arguments, he jumped to a completely different one. This demonstrated that "having time to read it" was irrelevant to the way he voted. He argues like every republican person that I have argued points with. He starts with the crap that the Repbulican leadership of limbaugh tells him, and as each argument fails, he jumps to the next one.

the original version. The only parts that needed to be read again - and it's the staffers' jobs to know this stuff and brief their boss - were the parts that were changed.

Think "proofreading," and you have a good picture of how the process works.

" ... not enough time to read it ..." is about the silliest excuse for voting against a bill that anyone can make. NO members read the bills that come across their desks - that's what staff is for.

He's spending too much time at that tanning salon, and I don't have a whole lot of hope for his hair, either.
