He is so thoughtful and well-informed. He was truly the conscience of America and his death in '68 was devastating. I think his death broke the hearts of many of us in this country and our hearts hurt for decades. I think the election of Obama helped to begin to heal that hurt.
I see a lot of King's influence in Obama. Like King, when Obama speaks he is deliberate and you can tell he has studied and seriously considered the topics on which he speaks.
I also like the way King was allowed to speak in a way that truly respected his opinion. He was allowed to share with us HIS observation about the war, and give us a history lesson on Vietnam at the same time. I really miss the days of a more civil media that focused on information and not rhetoric of hyper-ideology. In my 'perfect world', I wish for us a return to this kind of respectful one-on-one interview where the host doesn't have a political axe to grind, or a giant ego to massage.
