I listened to the first few minutes of this, and even if the guy is right in his complaint, then the press secretary made a mistake regarding a really esoteric type of commodities dealer (or whatever), and THAT'S the most ignorant thing that he's ever heard said by a press secretary?

this guy has been accurately predicting this market collapse for almost two years now... personally, I could care less about his politics. I just want the facts and the truth where ever i can get them. that does not mean I agree with what he has said here however his track record during this crisis to date has been impressive, he understands the markets and the mechanisms that make it work ( or not ) we should not blind ourselves to the truth simply because it is being presented by some one who may not share all our views. ( and he has stated on his website that he voted for our president )

6. Allow me to shed light on this guy

He is Karl Denninger.

He has a blog/column on finance, and along with Roubini, Max Keiser and few others, absolutely knows his stuff about finance, and has been predicting the course of financial problems accurately for many years,
Which is why those who listened to or read ( I prefer to read him, he is a bit annoying to watch, as is Keiser)
those who follow his thinking, like me, were able to salvage our funds early in the game, as in 2006.

Yeah, he has a horrible wig or whatever that thing on his head is.

Yeah, I recognize some Asperger's syndrome in him. It's an annoying personality trait.
He is kool-aid free, however.

He knows his stuff on the economy, tho.

I have been following Karl since I first stumbled on his "ticker" in august of 2007 after watching a huge down day on the DOW. I went looking for answers and found what I consider a great financial blog, Karls. the guy knows his shit and he does not mince words. he is opinionated but he sees reality and understands finance. he can be very technical to the point where the average reader might need to do a little independent research to fully understand what he is saying. that can be both a problem and a blessing, a problem because alot of folks are to lazy to do that research and a blessing because those who do, come away with a better, clearer understanding of the markets and the economy as a whole.

Thanks to him, and to Max Keiser, in 2005 we started the downsizing, getting rid of all debt,
risked early retirement, pulled our retirement funds out of AIG and other "investment" banks, etc,
sold the mutual funds in 2007.

Now we are in a physical and financial place of our choosing where the current craziness is not affecting us.
We were never rich. but we did not lose our little nest egg, and can afford the monthly mortgage and utility bills.

If I were 20 years younger, we would have been out of the country.

I know a lot of people do not "do "financial thinking, for various reasons.
Mr. D. hates to even talk about money.
But....we both share the important values of thrift, little impulse buying, thinking over big purchases, putting money aside, and that goes a long way.

Oh...and the DU Economy forum and members like you are invaluable resources for economic survival in times like these.

12. Amen to the Canary's like this guy that warned us as well

I'm in total agreement with you Dixiegirl.

With America's preoccupation with image, most intelligent people are left on the wayside because they are not Charismatic or Attractive enough to warrant attention from the ADD Adults that roam the wasteland of America today.

It's kind of like an old Kurosawa movie, where the villagers are being fooled by the Charismatic despot to revolt against the incumbent, wise, but "Ugly" leader of generations. Of course, the drunk Samurai played by Toshiro Mifune see's through the gimmick and saves the idiot Villagers from themselves.

This guy is agitated for good reason, as everyone should be, however, to do nothing and live in fear is not one of them.

Although I like Obama and the platform he ran on, I see too much similarity to the Clinton administration for him to be a true leader of change. I hope that he can give the criminals enough rope to hang themselves before they hang him for being too progressive.

All of us have to be in a place where we can be attentive and provide necessary support without worrying about a roof over our heads, clean water and healthy food. The big thing I see down the road is the severe shortages that are now building in the system. America is not producing much these days, but there will be a day when the Sun comes out and people will need to restock their supplies, but there won't be anything but empty warehouses, or goods that couldn't be given away because they were so toxic or cheap that even WalMart couldn't sell the crap.

I don't see many sources talking about this nasty little surprise, and they figure that the land of plenty is a God given right. People I am afraid are in for a rude awakening.

I am greatful that I had a chance to become collateral damage of the Enron scandal in California coupled with the Dot Com bust. It caused massive trauma to California jobs, and forced us into being more attentive to the economy than we ever have before. The more we looked, the more it didn't make sense, and we learned as much as we could, watched the signals grow, and learned which sources to watch as a warning. 5 years later, from losing everything and starting all over, we now have a large productive tract of land, able to sustain a dozen families, financial independance and tons of cash that basically just sits there until we find ancient tools and items of value for pennies on the dollar. All that without working for anyone other than myself since 2003. It is truly incredible what one can accomplish when you have no debt, and the time to actually live free.

Hopefully America won't go into a traumatic upheaval, but it's better to be prepared in my opinion, and not freeze in shock like the vast majority of Americans will do if it happens.

The thinking over big purchases thought is so important that I cannot stress it enough. If their is any hesitation whatsoever on a purchase, walk away. Research it on the web, and 9 out of ten you will find better quality for less money, or feedback from people that lead you to understand the item is not needed anyway.

As I get older, I find that I am attracted more to simpler, rugged and useful tools that will help me build and maintain my home. Electronic gadgets and widgets other than data storage and retrieval have no use in my life, other than retrieving the terrabytes of knowledge that would be irreplacable if the Internet were to become unavailable, either through location or upheaval.


I truly believe that the real powers that control society fear the Internet and that they wish to control it in some manner someday, but they are at a loss at how to accomplish it without causing a revolution.

7. He right. He's been providing...

insightful (and accurate) finantial analysis throughout
the meltdown, he's right here that

the press secretary has jumped in out of his depth, didn't
recognize it, didn't get expert help, appears to be winging
it (badly) with clearly false claims, and has overall just
demonstrated he is not up to this extremely important job.

we should by now, after 8 years of it, be f*cking tired of
nonsensical whackery coming out of the mouth of pres press
secretaries, which is what part of that the "CHANGE" was
supposed to be about..

anyway, the press sec could clean up his act and save
his job as anybody can make a mistake, but this economic
business needs STRAIGHT TALK if the country is to recover,
and the PRESS SEC is one of the MOST IMPORTANT PLAYERS in
doing that, and if he can't do it credibly then get the F*
off the stage.

now, it occurs to me that despite the written law Obama has
the authority to impose reasonable regulation on implimentation
of the stim package, which means that it may be that whacky
things won't be allowed to happen... but that will be up to
the Pres, and what is needed is assurance from the press sec
that our man Barack gets it, understand the problem, and is
on the job. What we don't need is stupidity from the press sec
that the stim package deals with it, when it obviously doesn't.

Bloody hell people, don't be judging a source by its comb-over! Hey!
