Everybody's lying to us warns Beck. Did he include himself on that list? He should have.

We're in a depression and the best cure is to fuel the flames of a deflationary spiral. We'll forget that every respectable economist I've ever heard warns us deflation is the worst economic ill ever.

And people thought Nero could fiddle. ;)

2. You've got a good point...
... the only interruptions to the fear-mongering I've seen are episodic fits of buffoonery.

3. Uuuuughh

I wish I had those minutes back. But it was interesting to see an admission that we're in a deflationary situation.

6. Unemployment in 2012 will be 15%. Some argue it is already there.
So WTF does that mean? Is it going to get progressively worse and hit some disastrously high number like 15% in 2012? Or is it already there? How the fuck can it be already here? This guy is in the business of interpreting numbers and giving advice. The unemployment rate is a number so shouldn't this guy know if it is 15% or not?

There is a serious black hole in his logic here. If you say that it will hit the worst case scenario in 3 years, you are indicating that it will be much worse than it is now. It it is here now, than we have hit rock bottom today and there is no worse case scenario in 2012. This jackhole is probably using 2012 because some people believe that it is the end of the world and he can't make his case by logic alone.

8. Does fear-mongering have to make sense?
The entire segment is dedicated to fear-mongering the undercurrent of which is to bash the economic stimulus plan. Libertarian Glenn Beck, like many right-wingers, believes just doing nothing is the best prescription for America. He actually compared America to the Titanic in a previous show and said let the ship sink.

So, sure, there's tons of contradictions in what him and fellow ass hat Zimmermann have to say. Zimmermann seems to preach deflation at one point but then towards the end appears to understand the evils that unfold in a deflationary economy. It was one of those WTF moments where I didn't know whether to laugh or cry.

The 15% rate comes from a legitimate observation that the underemployed and discouraged workers roughly equal the number of current unemployed. However, as you point out Zimmermann seems to be contradicting himself predicting unemployment to peak at 15%-20% by 2012. My assumption is he means unemployment alone but who knows? Both seem completely confused to me.

All I know is if we go the deflationary route as they did during the Great Depression this country will be in a world of hurt. That's why the word needs to be spread that right-wing crackpots like Glenn Beck preaching destructive capitalism need to be outed.

9. You are right, there are just so many contradictions
I am guessing that at the end of the segment.....Glenn probably said something like "Nicely done!!! I bet we scared the Begeezus out of them. Come back anytime".

A couple of other comments/observations:

a) He has been saying for 3 years that we are heading to a depression.....But he was never on the Glenn Beck show before now? Strangely absent while Glenn was blindly supporting the leader of this mess, eh?

b) According to both of these tools "The worst possible advice is to go out and spend" Then what is the point of tax refunds? The guest does follow his logic through and can't help but jump to the conclusion that "well, I guess it is to create jobs because people will spend if they have a job". Well.......YA THINK!?!?!?! Although Beck doesn't seem to acknowledge that or comment on it.

c) He then throws in that the unemployment rate is "15 or 20 percent".....Oh, okay, so just throw a bunch of numbers out there. I can throw numbers out there, but if my job was nothing but to collect numbers, I would have exact figures. If I was an expert, I certainly would not have to speculate.

7. Man, that Glenn Beck sure is a Nematode
You know, like the ones that infest your liver and cause disease?

If people buy into his mannerisms, tone of voice, and outright stupidity, they they deserve to be led into the slaughterhouse quickly.

Incredible.

11. Watch it! Only conservatives can say "crisis."
Fringe news network Fox ran a clip of President Obama saying "crisis" a lot (no other context, naturally). Yet, a Fox News hack like Glenn Beck can say crisis or much worse fear-mongering and the hypocrites don't bat an eye.
