5. I did see that commercial on TV and they're so right -

in the late 70's my parents decided to heat the house with coal and the ceilings turned black.

7. My grammar school was heated by coal

On winter mornings we'd come in to these smelly classrooms that had a bluish haze that you could feel. The first thing the nuns would do would be to open all the windows. So, we spent the first few classes freezing our asses off.

I just saw it on tv for the first time and was pleased that they came up with an excellent ad that can't be misinterpreted.

eta: I grew up in a house heated by coal in the late 40s and early 50s. My folks then switched to gas heat as soon as they could. No blacked walls with the coal since the heat was directed to heat a water boiler that provided steam heat to the house. But I remember sooty skies in Queens, NYC.

Coen brothers make anti-coal ad for Reality Coalition campaign.

Academy Award-winning filmmakers Joel and Ethan Coen have created an anti-coal ad harpooning the coal industry’s greenwashing campaign. The ad, which launched yesterday, is part of the Reality Coalition’s campaign “to demolish the notion that there’s anything clean about so-called clean coal.”

Yesterday, the Center for Public Integrity reported that the American Coalition for Clean Coal Electricity spent more than $10.5 million in 2008 alone lobbying Congress for pro-coal “climate” legislation. The Wonk Room’s Brad Johnson has more on the myth of “clean” coal.
