5. Absolutely. I've written posts about that here on DU and was surprised at how many people

on the left go apoplectic when population control is mentioned. They acted like birth control education was an insult and all we had to do was use less energy/food. Many people see no connection between our environmental problem and population.

It has seemed obvious to me since my teenage days that the world is over-populated.

I agree. I'm sad that we haven't focused on birth control, including getting all teen boys to use condoms. By pretending that abstinence education is best, we lost an opportunity to control STDs better as well. Abstinence education has led to a big rise in all kinds of other unprotected sex, as long as the precious vagina is kept in tact.

And it was really embarrassing to see our government deny help with population control and STD management by denying funds to countries that allow abortion, even if our funds were not to be used for that.

I have been glad to see President Obama acknowledging that abortion is a very difficult choice for a woman, and that each woman should have the right to consult her own moral advisers about it.

I am really sick of fake piety, or grandstanding adherence to some dogma, without looking honestly at the results of that practice.

This fake piety even extends to TV censorship-- we fuzz up film of nipples or someone's behind but we're allowed to see all kinds of violence unimpeded. (although it is glamorized).

But maybe I can be of assistance to you, should you plan to the reduce your carbon footprint. Or make the ultimate commitment to recycling. Or something like that.

I can't stand how people whinge and whine incessantly about this and that global issue only opining what others ought and ought not do to better the overall situation or everybody else. Why don't you selflessly take your own life or live in squalor in some cave or something? Why don't you give up your quality of life before suggesting others do as much?

Honestly, does anyone have any constructive, sensible suggestions regarding, for example, greenhouse gas emissions contributing to global warming?

What do you suggest? Everybody give up their cars completely? Never go on vacation? Never turn on their TVs or computers or lights? Don't use refrigerators? Grow one's own food?

Is everybody bonkers?

I enjoy driving and fancy an outing once in a while even though I travel almost completely by mass transit. I go to work, to university and shopping by tram or bus but I want to be able to go for a drive when I feel like. I drive a 2.0 litre Peugeot 206, diesel.

I don't watch TV (don't even have cable). Last month I used 100 kWh of electricity.

I hardly ever eat out and I cook my own food so I'm not obese, like most Americans. I don't have the time or care to grow my own food as well. That's just plain crazy in this day and age.

What, should I feel guilty for being born? For booting my computer? For turning the lights on, what?

You people don't like nuclear power, you don't like natural gas, coal power, hydroelectric, nothing. Should we go back to the stone age? Is that what everybody wants? Go live in caves or off the land with the Amish?

Or could you just shut up already with how everybody else should live their lives and what they should and shouldn't give up in creature comforts?

Accept the fact that, no matter what you do except killing people, world population will do nothing but continue growing. And so to will the energy, food and water requirements.

Despite this, there's easily plenty enough for everyone to live in adequate comfort, if only there were less apoplectic greed, corruption and corporate rights in the world as well as a tad more consumer judgement and less inequality.

Are you going to start doing the elderly in or what?
