5. If you're naive enough to go to the South, you shouldn't be surprised when this happens, especially-
in Texas.

6. This happens all over the country.....
.... TSA Goons at the airport take laptops.

A pack of Cigarette papers is considered "drug paraphernalia", which allows the police to seize your car "as used in the commission of a Felony". Even if you are found not guilty... good luck in getting your car back. It will cost you thousands in legal fees and take years in the courts. The cops know this.. that's why they do it.

7. There's not much to do in little towns
HWY 59 is a major East-Texas artery. That means a lot of out-of-town traffic goes through there. Minority people tend to use cash instead of plastic. Makes them more vulnerable. Or lucrative, depending on your point of view. And bling? don't get me started.

Imagine, here you are in a little town famous as the deer tick capital of the world, in the middle of a recession. Nothing to do to generate income to provide even the most basic levels of public amenities. Don't want to leave. It's hard to be the lead singer in better bands. Legal is as legal does.

There are places in the world where the sunlight of civilization has not shone. Where expedience and tradition blend and it's called "rustic ambiance". East Texas, like Afghanistan, is one of those places.

8. Unbelievable
This country just keeps marching backward in time. Now what, we're gonna see the return of rampant, commonplace police corruption like they use to have in NYC and Chi Town when cops ran numbers and did their bidding for the mob, extortion, murder for hire etc. I am not saying that stuff doesn't still occur, but certainly not as much as it once did. Of course I'm not surprised this happened in some jerkwater in Texas. My question is, why aren't the FEDS all over this?
