Hoekstra: It's night and day.... Because in WWII I don't think we expected the, you know, you didn't have the threat from home grown terrorism. You didn't have...remember these folks successfully attacked us on 9-11, 3000 Americans died. And the threat and the specter of the threat that we face today from radical Jihadists is very, very different than the threat that we faced from Germany or Japan in WWII. Putting these people in the middle of our communities puts those communities at risk and puts the people that work at those facilities at risk because they can be very, very easily identified. It is a total different threat assessment when you are in Gitmo vs when you are in a community in our homeland.

2. Subpoenae, depositions, indictments, lawsuits
Yes, they are a huge threat to the powers that be because each one is a potential witness in torture trials.

3. Didn't have the threat of home grown terrorism? Hoekstra is a German
name and he has forgotten the way people felt about American Germans in both WWI & WWII? He is an idiot.

4. What crap!
This guy is so full of bullshit.
He obviously doesn't know WW2 history at all, and should not use it for hyperbolic straw-man propaganda, or he is a fucking liar.
are they trying to say the the una-bombers el al. that we have locked up now, that have actually conducted terrorism, are less dangerous than a bunch of poor bastards that were swept up for no reason and then had the shit tortured out of them for seven years?
These assholes are the most cynical disingenuous sanctimonious fucks ever!

5. I have told this story many times.
When I lived in Germany and Austria, I was occasionally stopped by older men (unusual since they were strangers to me) who wanted to thank me for how well they were treated as prisoners of war living on farms in the U.S. during and after WWII.

We could have gained so much and made at least a few friends had we treated these prisoners decently. What idiots people like Hoekstra are. They posit the idea that there are droves and droves of rigid, hateful people out there who never want to change or learn from other cultures. Of course, that is called projection. Hoekstra and his friends on the far right are projecting their own personality traits on people they have never met.

The Germans were fanatics as were the Japanese. The German prisoners of war were relatively free and integrated into our society -- although they had been completely made into NAZI fanatics by the German propaganda.

Our treatment of the prisoners from Afghanistan and Iraq justified their hatred of us. It confirmed all the evil lies they had been fed about the American people. Just how did that make us safer? It didn't.

6. Why do we tolerate mentally ill people in our government?
We continue to treat them as if they are sane. Why? The twisted truth or lies they tell is easy enough to prove one way or another. Why don't we do it? Then remove them from office.
