Real Time w/ Bill Maher - May 8, 2009: Bill says it "looks like there is an internal coup from Jesus Freaks who are taking over our Army because ... the chief military chaplain in Afghansistan said .. 'We hunt people for Jesus.' I don't think this goes over well with the Muslims." Reza Aslan responds: "This is nothing new. This has actually been going on for a really long time. It's not a joke. There is really an evangelical cancer in the military. There is a deliberate attempt by a group of evangelicals to create what they call military missionaries." Naomi Klein: "Wearing T-shirts saying 'This is a Crusade.'"

2. Obama is a Jesus freak too
he probably won't do anything to put a stop to the fundie takeover of government that began under Bush. if anything he probably supports it.

3. cheaper to send aid than bombs too - and if it works better, there's a plan

more 'true morals' and less 'what would jesus do' would be nice - who cares if the behavior comes from one religion or another, just so long as the encouraged-behavior serves humanity instead of demeaning one view or another

lead by example not by screaming the loudest

6. imagine, if you will, if let's say, iran, under the auspices of saving us from a rogue regime of
war criminals (gw bush et al) came in and invaded our country and tried converting us to muslim faith? do people not think that americans would take this as some kind of an insult? like pushing their crap on us? this is ridiculous. gays get kicked out but these jesus nuts get to take over!!! what the hell! the thing that has kept us going as a country is our ability to keep government out of religion and religion out of government. this kind of crap is just going to be the end of our country if it is not stopped!

7. I am every bit as sick of pushy Christians as I am of republicans.

I'm especially sick of people who are both. When will this toxic religiosity end? I hate it that this religious crap, including the torture that churchgoers love so much, is being done in my name!

America will continue to sink if we remain in the death grip of extreme Christianity. I don't think we can count on the Rapture to save us, either. That's just more crazy idiocy.

8. Separation of Church and State is a necessity for more reasons than 1. We look bad as
a nation when the evangelical idealogy is being promoted by our military personal. People have a right to their own religious thoughts, but not to use the military to promote their own unique religious views. I would like to see the promotion of the idealogy of compassion for all of life, and wise consideration before any actions, which is a rather pagan idealogy. It would help my cause to promote it in the military, and yet, I am certain that what I consider Sanity, would be considered too religious to be promoted in the army.

Thanks for the post.
