1. Well maybe she did
and then again, maybe she had listened to GWB's WMD shtick while people were getting killed.

As for outdoing El Rushbo, she going to have to get a lot more offensive than she was to start competing with him.

2. Well WTF is he supposed to say?
By tsk tsking about it he was able to play it again thus keeping it in front of viewers for another day.

At the same time he's able to stay above it, much like the WH did. Which kinda takes all the steam out of the RW whining about it.

I don't think any of this bothers Wanda however. She played her part. And did it well. Now KO and others are playing theirs.

I think it's working well.

as well. I know McKinney has gone a little crazy since that time, but back then, she was dead on in questioning Bush's involvement in and/or knowledge of the attacks. It appears that if you are a black woman you are not allowed to challenge "powerful" white men.

33. Time heals all wounds
9/11, like all other tragic events, will be considered material for comedy at some time, it's a question of how much time has passed since the tragic event. Evidently when it comes to 9/11, nearly 8 years is not considered long enough by many of the media. In any event, she was only using the event to make a point about what she regards as Rush's treasonous behavior. Bravo for her!

Hall of Fame alongside Lenny Bruce for speaking the truth about subjects that made the mainstream uncomfortable. Yes, Wanda took fatso fascist, oinker Rush down a few pegs and she used an allegory that made everyone uncomfortable, 911. Rush, on the other hand, has no problem promoting racism, lies, ad hominem attacks on his show and no one feels he goes too far. Hurrah for Wanda. She will prevail.

39. Keith was very critical of the GOP using 9/11 as well...
Remember he lost personal friends in that attack. It's a very personal subject to him and he doesn't want it used in any context that demeans it's value whether it be for propaganda purposes or as in a joke setting.

Personally I thought Wanda was right to make all of the comments she did in the context of how treasonous Rush is but I understand Keith's heartfelt disagreement to cheapening the memory of 9/11.

38. I don't disagree about the joke's intent...
and I actually found everything Wanda said to be hilarious and Rush was more than deserving of what wrath he wrought but for Keith it was still a joke that talked about the 9/11 hijackers and that touches a personal nerve with him because of the loss of personal friends.

I was just saying I understand why Keith was upset and am willing to give him a pass on this considering the context of his agitation.

Could be too cruel.

And especially since 'Licans kowtow to him in such craven fashion (puffing up his already overinflated ego), it's good for him and the 'Licans to realize that the rest of the world thinks of him as something particularly repulsive to be scraped off the bottom of your shoe.

Edited on Tue May-12-09 06:50 AM by Buzz Clik
It's one of Keith's most annoying traits -- he gives HIS answer in the statement of the question and strongly suggests that the guest agree with him. It was fun when he was the lone voice on television raging about Bush. It's not so fun when he joins Fox News in piling on Wanda Sykes.

I'm sticking with Wanda.

national character. After all, everybody's heard that old joke about Lincoln's assassination, and Lincoln's assassination was no more funny than 9/11. Come on. Wanda Sykes was brilliant.

The nation is sick and tired of Rush Limbaugh. The Republicans are upset about that because they know that Limbaugh is all they've got.

45. I will K and R this even though I disagree with KO. I think Wanda Sykes enabled an important
discussion about right wing hypocrisy. We're all aware that Limbaugh and his ilk want the President/America to fail as does Al Qaida. Wanda rightfully pointed this out. She did so in a biting manner that enabled such a discussion.

Also, we are once again noting Limbaugh's drug use (the epitome of hypocrisy) considering it was he who said that drug users should be locked up for good. Lastly, why is it that Cheney feels a loathsome creature like Rush Limbaugh is a better representative of the Republican party than a decorated general like Colin Powell?

I know Keith lost friends on 911, so I can understand and respect his thoughts on not using that day in the context of any joke.
