1. Simple: They're guilty as hell and they want to bully Dems into not pursuing them..
...yea.

Meanwhile, Dems are too timid. They are not doing ANYTHING to get (TAKE) control of this conversation. They should NOT back down and they should have been (ALL of them) on the news non-stop (wherever they could get a word in, op-eds or whatever) talking about what a distraction the finger-wagging at Pelosi is and saying that the problem isn't Pelosi. The PROBLEM is torture and that there were serious crimes committed that destroyed our nation's international standing and made us and our troops LESS secure NOT more secure.

*I* can say that and I'm no friggin genius. WHY can't THEY?

:wtf:

5. Will Porter Goss be prosecuted for lying to Congress? "We don't torture"
To cover their own arses, they must keep LYING, LYING, LYING

Will Porter Goss be prosecuted for lying to Congress?
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=389x5671623

On March 18, 2005, Reuters reported that Porter Goss "defended his spy agency's current interrogation practices but could not say all methods used as recently as last December conformed to U.S. law.

"U.S. officials do not view torture as a method for gaining vital intelligence, Goss said. But he acknowledged some CIA operatives may have been uncertain about approved interrogation techniques in the past."

Goss told the Senate Armed Services Committee "'The United States does not engage in or condone torture, ... I know for a fact that torture is not productive. That's not professional interrogation. We don't torture.'"

4. They want to throw enough bullshit out there & hope some of it sticks
and, if there is even a hint of scandal involving a Democrat, it won't matter to the media if 100 Republicans are guilty as sin, it will be a bipartisan scandal involving a prominent Democrat.

8. That's right
The way the Republicans do it is the following. If they are in the minority in Congress then bipartisan means that they should be treated as if they are 50% of the Congress meaning equal power. If they are in the majority it's 'well.. screw bipartisanship the people voted us into the majority we're in charge'. If the Republicans are caught breaking the law and they can find one Democrat that might, possibly, maybe, at some time in the past could have been involved then bipartisan means that everybody is equally to blame. If its 1 Republican and 100 Democrats then its 'wait a minute this is the Democrats scandal. That one Republican is just a rogue and doesn't reflect what the Republican party stands for'.

6. So, now we know that if Obama appoints a commission it will be to
"get this off the table." It will be a white-wash pure and simple.

The only alternative at this point is for Holder to appoint a non-partisan special prosecutor and convene a grand jury. Otherwise this will continue to distract and encourage partisanship on both sides.

The conduct at issue is either criminal or merely a policy difference. If the conduct is criminal and serious enough to be prosecuted, it must be prosecuted. If it is a matter of policy, then Congress should hold hearings and everything should be discussed including mistakes of the Clinton administration if that is where the inquiry leads.

Personally, I think that serious crimes were committed. Let a special prosecutor lead a grand jury review of the evidence. It should not be difficult to get all the evidence together since it is presumably in government control already.

7. The solution for the Democratic Party is simple
Remove the Pelosi bluff. The Republicans are saying "Wait, you may damage Pelosi" and we respond with "And your point is?"

Better we deal with her than anyone else. America knows how political parties protect themselves, let's show them how the Democratic party polices itself. If she is innocent, great, we can bake her a cake and remind her that politics is a rough job, and that no one person is more important than the truth.

Implicated or not, Pelosi is ours to deal with. When WE step up and deal with her, WE take the power from the Republican threat.
