in every state where coal is mined or is the primary generating source of electrical power is safely in the pocket of king coal. Every one.

I spent a lot of summers in Pennsylvania as a kid, and it's an area I know and love. I've seen the affects of even below ground mining. The waste is bright orange and they pump it through pipes drilled right into the mountain. This is just south of Elk County. The area, the people, the flora and fauna, are irreplaceable.

We need to invest in alternatives now, and in far greater amounts than we have been imo.

8. DEP halts new coal slurry injections

AP:

Coal slurry will not be allowed to be injected at new underground sites in West Virginia after the state's Department of Environmental Protection issued a moratorium on the practice Wednesday.

However, mine operators in the nation's No. 2 coal-producing state will be allowed to continue pumping a mix of chemicals, coal and dirt into about 15 underground mines where it already is done, the agency said.
