9. I only hated Jerry Fallwell
Not about to stoop to the Republicans level. Tom was right about the illegals, but he tends to shoot his ass of most everything else.

I don't want to use the word HATE loosely. Even in jest. That's a Republican thing. They HATE obama. I found Bush stupid and Cheney a dick. Did I hate them? No. I hated what they did, but not they themselves. Hate should only belong to the Republicans.

Since Cheney first shot his fool mouth off, it's been "Return of the Undead GOP Zombies" month in the mainstream media. Just because a black person is in the Oval Office it's been one GOP Has-Been after another making veiled (and not so) accusations of racism against any Dem they consider a political target of convenience.

"Pathetic" doesn't even begin to describe them.

4. but let me put the thought out there anyway
so (certain) people can take it and run with it

It's the same as saying, "I don't know if so-and-so beats his wife" to a crowd of people....now everyone in the crowd that heard the statement will wonder if so-and-so beats his wife...and they'll tell 2 friends who'll tell 2 friends, and so on and so forth

and before the day is over, people who never entertained the notion before will now gossip about so-and-so and his wife beating.

Plant the idea (attack) in the form of a question

and in this case, Tancredo and the media (by even asking the question) are promoting the attack from Rush with that tactic

21. I just looked him up.."Both sets of parents emigrated from
Italy.

Here's a fun fact or two..

"A former Roman Catholic, Tancredo is now a member of the Evangelical Presbyterian Church.<11> Tancredo is married to Jackie Tancredo. They met at Drake Junior High School as teachers, and married in 1977.<12> They have two children and five grandchildren.

On February 3, 2009 the Denver Post revealed that Tancredo has probably lost a significant amount of money invested in hedge funds with Agile Group<13>, a Boulder-based investment company with substantial investments in Bernie Madoff's investment firm."

it was never because of an african american on "white guilt" bender but because of conservatives like this.

17. I'm not ashamed of being white.
Edited on Sat May-30-09 09:57 AM by demwing
why should I be ashamed of something over which I have NO control? Are members of the GLBT community ashamed? No, and nor should they be. Neither any other race, creed, color, sexual orientation, or religious adherence. (I expect I may get some flame for the religion addition...)

Where we should be ashamed is when humans of any variety act like sub-humans, by treating other humans as less than human. Be ashamed OF them, not for your connection to them.

26. It's an idea I have that some people are born with a predisposition
to spirituality. I admit I have no scientific data, nor any evidence other than my own personal experience. It's based on love. If a person can't change who they love, then how can they change whether or not they love God?

27. I think you are confusing religion and spirituality
I don't think your theory that people are born spiritual is way out of bounds, but that people have a predisposition to a certain religion I don't agree with. Lets say you are born in the United States, chances are you will be a Christian or a Jew because of your upbringing and where you were born. If you were born in India do you think you would be a Christian because of something that is predisposed? Of course not, most likely you would be a Hindu or a Buddhist. If you were born in Communist Russia chances are you would be an Atheist. I don't think predisposition has anything to do with it.

30. You're right. I misspoke.
But not because I confuse religion and spirituality. To me, spirituality is the measure by which an individual internaizes their interactions or relationship with "the divine" - however you choose to understand the term. Religion is an external, artificial, social tool to control and manipulate the individual's natural spirituality.

I just wrote something I didn't really mean, that's all. Thanks for the call out.

23. Ok seriously bro, come on. There's a word in the title of my comment that you responded to, "if"
I-F. Don't get all self-righteous on me, please. I kind of thought it went without saying that placing yourself above anyone else for WHATEVER reason, defeats the purpose of humility, we are all created equal, I know. All jokes aside, I personally try to take it a step further; the "sub-humans" you mention are still human. Even when I see someone act like a "sub-human" I try to remember (after getting really pissed off) that I am more than capable of being that way for the mere fact that I'm human and I suffer from the character defects everyone suffers from. Oh and the "religious adherence" thing usually happens when people who say they're religious just adhere to their own selfish desires instead of the actual teachings and principles.

24. Woa, slow down there Ringo
I wasn't trying to push your buttons, just the opposite. I was agreeing with you, in a sense, becaue I feel that "white guilt" and it frustrates me. I was just riffing of your theme. Sorry I didn't express my sentiment better. Truly, no offense and no self righteousness intended.

What you said makes absolute sense, I just thought you were trying to throw it in my face. Context is sometimes lost in text, that's what I get for "reading between the lines". Again, I apologize.

16. The Republican Party is the party of racists.
Edited on Sat May-30-09 09:18 AM by olegramps
It is just that simple. They pander to white racists who hate everyone who is not white. These people have little or no accomplishments to justify their existence except to believe that being white is an accomplishment. The Republican Party went into morally bankruptcy with the death of Eisenhower. Every Republican president, and for that matter every Republican politician, since his time has been would have made the Founding Fathers vomit. There is not one with an ounce of moral integrity.
