Some things ARE black or white - torture, for instance. Trashing the Constitution is another.
Should we torture only one out of five and shred only half of the Bill of Rights? Yes, indeed, some huge things are definitely black or white.
Obama's good at *finding* grey areas that don't exist ethically, morally, or legally. But they are politically expedient.

I live in WI, just received his 2010 fundraiser letter complete with his "National Priorities Survey" and in #2 "Fighting Terrorism While Still Protecting Our Freedom" he doesn't give any indication that he would do a whole lot of things differently than Obama. He says "I will work with the Obama Administration to restore the rule of law in our country and roll back hastily approved legislation with provisions that unnecessarily allow the federal government to wiretap phone calls and secretly search the homes of innocent Americans." In #3 "The Wars in Iraq and Afghanistan" he says "I will work with President Obama to make sure that U.S. forces are redeployed out of Iraq. We need to refocus our policies in the global effort against terrorism and target al Qaeda aggressively so that Afghanistan will not be used again as a launching pad for attack on America".

No mention of torture. Also not how he adopted the ruling class's "war on terror" language, when in fact all of us knows that it's a farce: a war waged by the US elites against poor people and the american public. As much as I respect and support Feingold with my vote and money I do not believe he would be different than Obama. No one would. The president of the USA is in charge of an imperial machine that they cannot control. It would take a massive uprising like the fall of the Berlin Wall to perhaps change all that, but even that isn't a guarantee, Russia is still under the rule of the same x communist natl security establishment.

I have talked to NO ONE who believes this should go uninvestigated and unpunished. This is not some dirt we can sweep under the rug and move on. It's too big, ugly , damaging to the United States, and too illegal for that.

What was done in the name of our country will affect our national security (providing an excellent recruiting tool and excellent reasons for retaliation by extremeist groups) and endanger our troops for DECADES. They are doomed to suffer the same treatment themselves that we have inflicted on others at Bagram, Gitmo, and Abu Ghraib.

UNLESS the crimes of devising and carrying out torture during the Bush Administration in the name of the "War on Terror" is investigated and dealt with in the light of day we - and our soldiers - WILL PAY for these crimes. We do not win a "War on Terror" by being terrorists or by acting in the same ways that those whom we oppose, or are protecting ourselves from act.

This is NOT about politics. It is about the integrity of the United States of America, about our national security and about protecting our country and our troops - something the President is SWORN to do.

Ignore those crimes depicted in this film - at all of our peril.

The thing that got me while watching this was the young soldiers who seemed to enjoy what they were doing to the victims of torture. The US military did not treat Nazi's, a far greater threat by any measure, like this in WWII. Where in the flying fuck do we get these people??? They are like something out of the Middle Ages-- crude, ignorant, violent, submissive to authority and religious. How in the fuck did this happen in the US. In one generation or less we went from the 60's peace movement and the supposed enlightenment to corrupt authority, to a fascist culture that is far worse than what the 60's was fighting against. These kind of people are not amenable to moderation. They seem to be wired for violence and will do whatever they are told by authority. There is simply no excuse for this. We are doomed.
