Michael asked him for a prescripton for oxycontin. He rages against the doctor enablers.

1. The sentiments and stories are consistent from Chopra, his family, Ms. Presley...
...Michael was addicted. They wanted to intervene, to help him - with his addiction and with his other issues - but they couldn't - either because he hid from them and they couldn't reach him - or it consumed them when they tried.

None of them hated him. None are angry with him. Just sad about a friend they couldn't reach in time...or ever.

3. I have little respect for Deepfried Oprah....
...but it looked like, in this case, he showed some minimal amount of heart and sensibility.

7. A stopped clock is right twice a day.
Deepfried Oprah....good one! He is a joke and a half, isn't he?

16. I listen to a lot of self-help folks. IMHO he's a phony.
He sounds like the guys in the 60's who claimed to be enlightened through meditation and aesthetics and got a bunch of followers. An Indian accent and a Nehru jacket could get anything in those days.

There are many people teaching Zen Buddhism who have a lot more solid grounding, and a more rational presentation, than this guy.

21. You may not agree with him, but he is far from phony. Check his bio.

17. Notice how Deepfried never really looks
To be all that healthy or serene himself. Always quick to pass on judgement of others, but why, if his path is so spiritually well aligned, doesn't he ever seem joyful or at least healthy?

9. I thought he showed great sensitivity
He is a very heart-centered person and he obviously knew MJ very well. It was a very insightful interview.

4. I always thought that MJ was exploited by the plastic surgeons who ruined his face.
There is NO WAY a good doctor of any kind would do more and more plastic surgery on his face to the point that he no longer looked human.

And it appears he was also exploited by doctors who gave him drugs rather than really trying to help him.

12. There will always be predators of every ilk around the ultra rich and famous.
It seems his advice from Deepok was one of the few healthy moves he made, although he didn't take much of the eastern philosophy to heart.

Deepok is all about acceptance, and everything Michael did demonstrated his lack of acceptance of himself.

I'd like to think this accidental passing will teach an acceptance lesson to us all.

13. In fairness to said doctors ...
There are many conditions for which there is no help. That's why the specialty of pain management exists. When you can't cure the problem (often true for back problems like MJ's), your remaining option is to address the symptoms as best as is possible, even if that means opiates.

Not that I was overly offended by your statement. I'm just touchy, being a pain management patient, myself. Rather than feeling exploited, my days have been made slightly more bearable.

19. I'm all for legitimate pain management even when it means taking serious narcotics if that is
the best option.

However, sometimes doctors continue prescribing narcotics for pain management long long after they are not longer the best option and after they should have been discontinued.

My grandfather was a victim of such ill managed pain care. He nearly died. Another set of doctors got him off the drugs and he became a totally different person.

I don't know Michael Jackson's medical history. But from what those who are closest to him are saying, his problem wasn't pain management. His problem was the "pain management."

5. Maybe I'm just getting cynical in my old age, but how many more people are we going
to hear from who "tried to save him"? Probably many.

Said that he'd learned more from him than anyone else whom he'd spoken to. ;(

15. Have you ever dealt with an addict?
Do you really think that expressing public rage would help? Sounds like he did not enable Michael, which is the only thing you can really do in that case.

20. It's always been astonishing to me ...
how people on this board seem to love to trash Chopra whenever he is asked to speak on an issue ... whether it be the terrorists attack in India, Heath ledger, and now Michael Jackson ... as if some how expressing his opinion, or clarifying the nature of his friendship with a particular celebrity makes him responsible for the tragedy! Chopra has done nothing except, from the time he entered medical school, devote his adult life and career to helping people and humanity in general help themselves. A novel approach to be sure! He has bridged the gap between western medicine and ancient eastern ayurvedic health practices, while providing an important outline to a spiritual awareness that when ... you know ... you practice it, and make it part of your life ... it actually works! I know that's too hard to get your head around, because you have to do something beside snipe and find someone to blame. Are you pissed that he got rich and attained celebrity himslef while he's been attempting to help people? I was under the impression that abundance is entirely the point of a life well executed. I was in the Music business for 33 years ... If you have ever dealt with celebrity drug addicts, then you would know that what Chopra said about their ability to thwart intervention is true, while surrounding themselves with people who only say YES to them ... and not so unusual that it is often an MD ... and bye the way, intervention rarely works ... a drug addict has to want to NOT be a drug addict before any kind of treatment will be effective. In my opinion, he was asked a fairly direct question by Mr Olberman, and gave a very insightful, heartfelt response.
