Many of you remember that neo-Nazi group known as "The Order" that orchestrated the murder of Denver talk-radio host Alan Berg as well as a couple of high-rpofile armored car robbiers in Washington and California.
The Order used some of the proceeds from the armored car heists and its own counterfeiting operation in order to set up a training camp for white supremacists so that they could prepare for some imaginary race war. The man in charge of the camp, Randall Rader, was a survivalist who cut his teeth with The Covenant, the Sword, and the Arm of the Lord until their leader got too crazy for Rader's comfort level. No real military experience that I remember, but he was self-taught in firearms and outdoor survival and was generally well-regarded by the KKK/neo-Nazi underground. Bob Mathews, leader of the Order, made sure that Rader had the campsite, the gear, and enough privacy that Rader could train his recruits without any hassles.
Then came winter in the Pacific Northwest. That's when most of the recruits started thinking "Valley Forge, my ass" and longing for a fireplace, a warm bed, and three square meals a day. The camp basically fell apart before the Feds moved in to break The Order once and for all.
Some militias, like the Michigan Militia, have demonstrated more staying power. Sometimes, however, you never know.
