Several Senators are introducing legislation that would put a ban on text messaging while driving, following several studies that show how texting on the road is more dangerous than drunk driving.

Cell phone usage is not allowed in NY without speaker or bluetooth. It is strickly enforced. You must pull over to dial or use voice activated equipment.

There was a very tragic accident here in NY a couple of years ago in which a car load of cheerleaders who had just graduated from high school died in a horrific car accident while texting.

It's too dangerous.

7. We have no laws regarding use of cell while driving here in Ohio.

I've had 3 close calls just this summer, from morons gabbing away while I was unfortunate enough to be near their car on my motorcycle.

Haven't they anything better to do with their time? I really doubt the study. More dangerous than drinking and driving? I don't believe it. You can get a study to show anything and has anybody really studied this study? It showed different results than a prior study. I would like to see some validation on this. What is next... no talking while driving? No music?

not-paying-attention teen and 20-something crowd here in LA. They can't ban it fast enough to suit me.

you would notice all of the morons that can't talk and drive at the same time.
Perhaps you're one of them. I hate cell phones.
Get behind someone when they get a call, they slow down, the hang up and speed up.
Very frustrating following these idiots, especially in heavy traffic.
As for drunk driving, maybe not as dangerous, but my state has a.08% law. That isn't anywhere near drunk, not even impaired for most people.
But you can yack on the phone til you're blue in the face, doesn't matter who is behind you because you're too busy yacking to notice.

You see, when our people die on the roads, we tend to jump at the cause. It's illegal to use any phone without a hands-free set (BT or speaker) while driving.

10. i don't agree with anyone texting while driving.... i just don't see how you can legislate

common sense. People will still do it, but I guess if you get in an accident they can do more about it?? i don't know. I couldn't imagine texting while driving. i wouldn't even dial a number while driving!!
