With his impressive managerial skills and through his global network of four hundred thousand Christian pastors who have been trained by Saddleback over the last two decades, Rick Warren might well be able to start such a movement.

"Stop dreaming and start doing," the Purpose Driven Life author told his Anaheim Stadium crowd. Warren described a global Christian movement to bring the message of Jesus Christ to every man, woman and child on Earth. "It's going to cover the planet," he proclaimed, "and then the end is going to come."

Calling for "total mobilization of this church" and "radical devotion" to the cause, Pastor Warren sketched out his vision, which he declared was from God, of a "revolution", launched through Warren's "Purpose Driven" network of hundreds of thousands as pastors globally, to create a Christian world regime.

Though Warren's speech was in the idiom of Christianity, he did not seek to inspire his Saddleback audience with examples of great religious leaders who have changed history through persuasion or other nonviolent approaches. Rick Warren looked to 20th century exemplars of vision and dedication but not to Mohatma Gandhi, Martin Luther King, or any other religious leaders.

With more than a hint of admiration in his voice, pastor Warren described how in 1939 in a packed Munich Stadium before the leader of the Third Reich, young brown-shirted men and women spelled out in formation, with their bodies, words in German which read "Hitler, we are yours."

"And they nearly took the world, " pastor Rick told the stadium crowd. He moved on to quote another inspirational example from the 20th Century, Lenin, who said 'give me 100 committed, totally committed men and I'll change the world.' Once again Warren observed, "They nearly did."

Having cited dedication and zeal of young Nazis and the efficacy of Bolshevik Revolutionaries, Warren moved on to describe how the sayings of Chairman Mao, printed up in the "Little Red Book", had helped propel the revolutionary fervor of the Chinese Red Guard who had carried out the violent, anarchic revolutionary spasm known as the Cultural Revolution.

...that I wipe my ass with Rick Warren.

I have said this since he first published "40 Days of Purpose."

I thought this guy was a douchebag from DAY ONE.

I encourage everyone here to realize that if you are not a Christian and you have issues with this guy, those issues are NOWHERE NEAR the issues that "some" Christians have with him. Like me.

I don't follow him, I don't respect him...he's got his own little flock and I am not in it. He's a dangerous guy. He's a bigot. He's got money.

Welcome to organized religion.

He's not "speaking" for "us."

The first thing that people might like to know is that when it comes to Christians, there IS NO "US."

Especially when it comes to "US" including dipshits like Rick Warren.

I assume the memory of the religious wars of 1500-1700 is still weighing heavily, since Christians have been wary ever since of accusing one another of not being real Christians. But this thing is being stretched to the limit and somebody is going to have to take a stand or risk the destruction of Christianity for generations to come.

Not being a Christian myself, it's not my fight -- but I do see the way things are trending, and it ain't pretty.

5. I have never heard Rick Warren speak before, but

I listened to the video. He used the dedication of the German people to Hitler as an example of dedication . He also said that Hitler was the "personification of evil". That is hardly a ringing endorsement or admiration of Hitler.

I would be more interested in his explanation of the slogan "whatever it takes". "Whatever" can be interpreted to an extreme unless the boundaries are further defined.

"whatever it takes" - fundamental evangelicals are by and large followers of the ends justify the means method of proselytization. one of my childhood friends has been in a christian cult (she calls it a church) for going on 20 years now. they have a large presence on college campuses, where they lure kids who are away from home for the first time to what they call "bible study" in a variety of deceitful ways. when the people get to "bible study" they are subjected to a very narrow course of study in which the bible is cherry picked and the subject put through a wringer that leads to their conversion and baptism. during the entire time they are converting the subject, that person is kept busy constantly with the company of loving happy "christians." they are supposed to "die to themselves" for jesus, and once they've been "saved," 99.9% of their time is consumed by the "church" as they actively round up more and more vict---souls in need of salvation.

i can't (won't) watch the video. is the description entirely accurate? is he proposing a movement of oppression, violence, and mass murder? in the name of christ? how did the crowd react? i can surmise that they all amen'd on cue and cheered and clapped and felt gawd's love. ay yi yi.
