Moments like this explain why the right ALWAYS needs to bring up the SNL stuff whenever they talk about him. I'm not demeaning how good he was on the show (although I always thought the Stuart Smalley stuff was lame), but it's a tactic they use to undermine how ridiculously smart and articulate he is "in real life."

Al Franken is going to be a GREAT Senator. In fact, he already is. As the public begins to see this, the SNL stuff will fade away. I'm actually pretty heartened that the Politico piece didn't refer to it at all.
