1. The big problem with this bill for Democrats is that the only
cost-cutting measures will decrease Medicare benefits. It could be said that the entire hoop-la about the bill is a way to disguise cuts to Medicare.

Of course, in 2010 and 2012, the Republicans are going to beat Democrats up over the Medicare cuts -- and rightly so. Only imbeciles would pass a health care bill that permits insurance companies to charge as much as they want while reducing Medicare costs. Only imbeciles -- well, if the Democrats in Congress don't see what the political effects of this bill will be due to the Medicare cuts, they truly are imbeciles.

The bill is absolutely worthless and will do more harm than good. It is very sad but that is the awful truth.

2. That's what you do when you've already sold out to Big Phrma
and you want to somehow make it look like you're still trying.

4. This is what I've been saying for years -
the politician's playbook - you trumpet change but don't deliver it. Both sides are happy with the result. Has this ever played out any other way?

6. Evidently, trying to make it look like he's doing something . . .
whereas the idea seems pretty remote and foolhardy -- !!

This isn't a bill worth passing . . . and it wouldn't even be effective til 2014 . . .

but taxes would start beginning of this 2010???

Medicare is up and running and ready to go --

Allowing corporations to move their corruption further into health care is criminal -- !!!

7. Because they will help him deliver the pro-Insurance *reform* he seeks, while providing cover
for the ultimate fallout. He gets what he wants, but can act as though he desired more but had to make "concessions" in the spirit of bipartisanship. Akin to having your cake and eating it too.

8. Cenk is funny, I just try to highlight the positives so we don't give up all hope, and there is...
despite everything lots to be thankful for. I think Pres. Obama just stongly wants on his final resume to say he helped bring 2 sides together that isn't as easy as 1-2-3 though. For Pres. Obama it's his resume for everyday folks it's something more. I still don't feel Pres. Obama is as sinster as some portray him as, his perspective is just different than ours. I felt the peace prize speech was more him in real time trying to reconcile his surge with the peace prize and I do feel he does want the wars drawn down in his tenure.

The impression I get he's set out in advance how he wants his final score sheet to look of his achievements and is doing all he can to make that a reality in practice not quite as easy as he might of hoped.

11. Who cares about the "Why?"
Edited on Fri Dec-18-09 01:12 PM by liberation
This is another intellectually dishonest BS by people unwilling to call a spade a spade.

Now put the same question as a statement form, and we face the real picture here: "Obama is reaching out to those who won't vote for health care no matter what." I don't give a rat's ass about why he is doing that, I care deeply THAT HE IS DOING THAT though.

Until we face that basic fact (i.e. the why in policy is meaningless, the end result is what it is important) we'll be running around in circles. All too unwilling to face reality. What were we expecting from a guy who was waxing poetic about god damned motherf*cking REAGAN during the campaign? We were seriously thinking a Reagan fan was going to be our liberal savior? The joke, ultimately, is on us progressives.

While we ask questions for which the answer is useless, there is one thing certain... the GOP and the DLC get every single thing they want. And frankly they could give two flying f*cks if we find out WHY they are doing so.

So what then? What happens if we figure out WHY Obama is doing this sh*t? We'll pat ourselves in the back then? "Heck Mr. Obama sure has screwed up, but at least we know why now... oh, lordie that makes it all OK then... bullet dodged!"

"This is another intellectually dishonest BS by people unwilling to call a spade a spade."

This is a title I had to think up quickly late last night. So don't read too much into it. The content of the video is a million times more relevant.

;)

Maybe he figured nothing would happen of consequence and is waiting for 2010 to expose all those who wasted time?

19. Because Wall Street owns him in more ways than one
Edited on Fri Dec-18-09 11:40 PM by soryang
Obama is one with Wall Street intellectually. He has hired all of Rubins proteges. There people are Friedmanites. They are ideologues. They have no interest in public options or expanding Medicare coverage. That is blasphemy because it takes money from the private sector, (the insurance middlemen), and implements a direct pay model for medical care. Any shrinkage of the insurance cut of the market has an expanded negative effect on wall street where those funds are typically put to work. Obama really believes that entitlements like medicare need to be reduced in cost, making him a true Friedmanite and social budget hawk. "Sacrifices will need to be made."

As a nouveau riche, Obama wants to socially belong to the northeast elite, hedge fund, investment banker set.

These people provide Obama's aggregated political contributions as well.

The seeking consensus with the political adversary posture, fruitless as it has been, is really a cover for his wholesale corporatist sell out. Even his war effort in Aghanistan is more privatized than than that of Bush, making him a true shock and awe Friedmanite.

20. Obama obviously leans toward the pharmaceutical & insurance industry profits
Edited on Sat Dec-19-09 12:33 AM by LaPera
and the millions he'll receive in campaign donations and the millions more for Rahm and the rest of the corporate DLC clan will get when they go to work for the corporations after their administration days are over and they will indeed make millions....after all from McAliffe to Clinton to Emanuel to Obama they are apparently ALL DLC corporate whores!

The fix was in before the health care process even started, which explains why Obama never really gave it his all and is happy with Lieberman's demands and this watered down, weak bill.

So Obama will get a big signing photo-op and at the State of the Union Address speech he'll be praising this same bullshit bill as health care "REFORM"!

And Snowe, Nelson, the republicans, Lieberman, the insurance corporations, DLC-Rahm and Obama will all be happy.

And we the people/workers have just gotten fucked!
