3. Thanks for the posting of this.
I am amazed that Cramer is even on the air.
But then, I am amazed that Fox is on the air, too.

5. Investigative journalists in Playboy?
Oh please, let it by Amy and that fox Laura Flanders. If they both appeared in Playboy, I'd be in heaven!

7. back in the day, Penthouse, Playboy and Rolling Stone
often broke big stories, interviews etc, The pigmedia then avoided the inherent flaw evidenced by softcore porn outsiders and alternative news media like the Village Voice and RS etc being better newspersons then they were by suggesting that the other were so rich it was easy and almost natural. But perhaps the mainstream newsmedia have always been 'comforting the comfy and afflicting the afflicted' despite all pretense. And since they controlled the real media, the pretense has been kept up, even in the face of plain fact. The mainstream newsmedia pretended they were objective about the entire WMD basis for the 'war' against the people of Iraq, but they were actually the main actors in the story, and today they just ignore it, or pretend they opposed the juggernaut. Even if 99% of people know otherwise, they still keep up the pretense.
They not only tell us what we think, but what we think we think.

19. There are so few, actual,
Investigative Reporters, since the corporate MSM, just want to pass on "news" rather than investigate and report the truth. The MSM is owned by the very villains who have their hands in the cookie jar. They do not want to tell on themselves.. The only way to get real investigative journalism back on TeeVee and to educate ordinary citizens, is to REINSTATE THE FAIRNESS DOCTRINE and to "bust up" the monopolies that currently control our flow of information. Man, these regulations were put in place because "we the people" learned (the hard way) the dangers of propaganda. Yet we have helped the rethugs de-regulate everything that is vital to Americans (media, financial institutions, trade, etc..). I might enjoy Laura in a Playboy spread, but Amy, while brilliant and attractive, could be replaced by Naomi Klein ! lol...sorry to be sexist, but Klein is HOT and brilliant, perfect.

6. Great Show Max!
You should be recommending Adam Curtis's documentaries, The Century of the Self, and The Trap, when talking about Americans and Brits turning into hypochondriac, drugged-up zombies.

The Trap: What Happened to Our Dream of Freedom builds on themes first discussed in The Century of the Self. Happy viewing!

8. Does Max seem a little more on the edge lately?
Can't say I blame him. If a little theatrics and faux hysteria gets some people to tune in and consider what he's saying, that's a good thing.

10. I think he thought that more of us
Edited on Fri Jan-01-10 05:27 PM by truedelphi
Middle Incomed bottom feeders would wake up.

Instead the charisma of the new Administration is well thought out.

Like Che Gueverra pointed out in his writing, under the header of "Negotiated Solution" when inside a banana republic, the mean nasty tyrant is close to bringing the nation not to its knees but instead to outright revolt, then the CIA gets busy and puts a more likeable and personable guy in that tyrant's shoes. The tyranny continues, but people are more accepting.

In the TV era, people will accept enslavement as long as it comes from the Charismatic. It is part of the TV era destruction of most people's grey matter. Part of the whole reason for having as many "entertainment" news media outlets as there are, and of also turning our real news channel stations over to celebrating celebrities and entertainers, is that we want charisma from our leaders.

And we are also taught that to think and analyze the news is un Kuhl. So that leads us into a populace so willing to state, "Well I don't spend my time worrying about the economy - after all, I am on Social Security and nothing can bother me."

13. So, you think the personality change is real -- from his frustration?
For Max's sake I hope it is not, because he seems like his head is about to explode, and he's one of the good guys.

I definitely take the points you are making about the broader picture. Max no doubt understands all of that, so it must be terribly frustrating to see us so passively accepting the continuation of the multi-trillion dollar transfer to the multi-national corporations when so much oof it is absolutely against our best interests.

If he had any expectation that the direction would change when we elected a guy under the slogan "Change you can believe in", this is the sort of that that does make one's head explode. The only change we have seen in the area of wealth transfer to the fascist robber barons is an ACCELERATION of it under Obama. More than that, we haven't seen even the slightest hint that he has any interest in opposing any of that.

He recently made a speech on Wall Street, which was like a scripted rasslin' match. It gave him an opportunity to talk tough, but there was absolutely nothing behind any of his words. 12 months into his Presidency we still see nothing that will change how the robber barons do business. No new laws. No new regulations. Even the so-called pas tzar has largely let anything go.

Heck, if he keeps this up, some people may start thinking he is actually on the bankers' side.

You make a great point about the manipulation of images to sustain a bankrupt dictatorship. That may be exactly what we are experiencing right now. Some people may say, "You are talking crazy. We still have an intact system. People are still employed. We still have industries and the police and laws are still doing their job. How could you compare this to a third world dictatorship?"

Let me point out that in most of the dictatorships in the past century, life continues more or less normally on the streets, as long as people stayed in their place. People still had jobs. There was still law and order. It seems you can oppress people quite a bit before they reach the breaking point.

18. The sad thing about that script you mention of
A few days or weeks back, of Obama scolding the Wall Street fraudsters (I could have watched it as C Span had it on, but I felt MY head would explode) is that the scripted speech was the shredding of his promise to us, only fourteen months old, that he would keep careful tabs on the Bailout monies, and if they did not affect the middle incomed in a positive way, then he would oversee very tight regulations that would allow for us tax payers to have those monies better serve us.

(Bvar22 posted the link, I could search for that Oct 2008 sppeech if you need to see it for yourself. Obama plays the part of a very Progressive, middle class-oriented candidate. Too bad we were not savvy enough to udnerstand that he was just playing a part.)

As far as Max and his rants, it's a bit hard to know if his personality is being altered, by all his understanding of how screwn over this nation is, and how complicit the vast majority of people are, or if he just had one cup of coffee more than he can handle. In any case, I love his rants and hope he keeps up the good information.

14. Rachel
Rachel Maddow cites stuff in Playboy all the time. She is thus giving it her journalistic seal of approval.

One of the coolest things about Playboy is that back in 1992 they gave Frank Zappa both the Playboy interview and I think artist of the year also. Forget the details, but it was an unprecedented honor to do that for Frank, as he was pretty sick at the time and died within a year after.

This is a Zappa quote I shop around here often:

"The illusion of freedom will continue as long as it’s profitable to continue the illusion. At the point where the illusion becomes too expensive to maintain, they will just take down the scenery, they will pull back the curtains, they will move the tables and chairs out of the way and you will see the brick wall at the back of the theater."

I think we are RIGHT NOW at the stage Zappa describes, but we don't have the historical perspective to see it clearly in our collective present. We are there, folks, it's just most of us don't know it yet!

I think Max is doing his hyperbolic best to try and tell as many as possible this is exactly the case as of right now. Damn good Max episode here, and I think I'll go re-watch this whole series again shortly!
