While not a Christian myself, I agree with this fellow's most cogent argument that one could not possibly be LESS Christ-like than Pat Robertson.

3. It's very important there is a distance made between the people that truly believe in the bible ..

and those that hide behind it. They basically do not believe in the goodness of the bible or any holy book, it is simply their card they use as a free pass to do bad things. And behind it they know they have no faith whatsoever. Just to them it's a license to be an a-hole and make a quick buck.

How about the badness of the Bible.


In a cobbled together over centuries anthology of ancient texts, there is little consistency. Verse 5 may be "goodness" but verse 7 will tell you to sell your daughter as a slave. The Bible is just a book of ancient made up stories and guesses. It has no special anything.....goodness or power. It should be shelved next to the Odyssey and Gilgamesh.

8. Try reading the Jefferson Bible which is a compilation of

the sayings of Jesus with a little narrative added. Jefferson took the core message of Christianity and left out the rest.

10. there is goodness in the bible. there is slavery in the History of the

United States of America, hatred, genocide, greed and murder and slavery. but there is goodness there too. do we shelve our history next to the Odyssey and Gilgamesh too? For every prick out there, there are two or three people that pull over and jump into rivers to save someone. Its happening right now and part of what motivates people to do good for Haiti and for the stranger in need is the goodness that is in the Bible.

5. Not terribly helpful

While I understand Shane is trying to argue, to his credit, against Pat Robertson's statements, he is still providing cover for religious zealots by trying to argue within the same religious boundaries. Isn't the correct argument simply that Pat Robertson is a crazy old fool who routinely spits out bilious, hateful nonsense in the form of holier-than-thou religious piety? It seems to me that even trying to get in the religious arena with Pat Robertson and his like is actually providing umbrage and context that essentially forgives, to an extent, what he is saying. Shane says it's wrong to judge the Haitian People today because their ancestors made a pact with the devil 200 years ago and that people today should not be judged for the actions of their ancestors. In my mind even acceding the notion that one can in fact make a pact with the devil is utter foolishness. Why invoke religion, even if you're religious, to condemn the words of someone who is obviously and seriously mentally flawed?

Pat Robertson did not simply go to far with his comments. Pat Robertson claims to know for certain God's actual divine will, which is that the Haitian people are condemned to live in a literal Hell on Earth until they actually die and go to the real Hell. There is absolutely no context necessary to understand that these are the rantings of a sick individual.

6. It would appear that robertson is the one who made a pact with the devil

He doesn't seem to be able to help himself or control himself when a natural disaster hits. He can always be counted on to do the devil's bidding and provoke division.

One cannot serve both god and money--and television requires a lot of money, so guess who robertson doesn't serve? It's clear he serves the devil.

Pat Robertson should have quit while he was ahead many years ago. Pat Robertson needs to take some time off, go someplace nice and quiet and see if he can finally find the God he has talked about so loudly for so many years. Pat Robertson does not speak for Jesus. He speaks only for Pat Robertson.
