On Jan. 21, 2010, just after noon, about 30 protesters were arrested on the steps of the U.S. Capitol, east side, for failure to obey a police order to disburse. The protesters are part of the "Witness Against Torture" group, which demonstrated earlier today in front of both the White House and U.S. Supreme Court. I've been fasting with them since January 11, ends tomorrow. We need to stop torture and illegal detention.

5. One thing we did locally was get together

and watch the film "Taxi to the Dark Side". Its about the use of torture by Americans in the "war against terror" and it highlights the story of an Afghan taxi driver who is mistakenly arrested and beaten to death within 5 days of his imprisonment.

After we watched it together I watched it alone a couple of days later. There have been over 40 homicides as a result of maltreatment of prisoners. Nobody has been prosecuted for these. Only 8 percent of the prisoners are known to be al quaeda members. And most of the detainees were arrested by Pakistanis or Afghans in exchange for bounties. The detainees seldom know what the charges are or how long they will be detained.

Travesty doesn't begin to describe it. There have been some minor changes since Obama took office but basically its still a legal mess.

Torture is wrong. Its still going on.

And isn't the Capitol building the very living definition of public property? We, the people, OWN that building.
