In the wake of Scott Brown's win in Massachusetts, Gil Smart advises the Democrats that the country is getting tired of the party's weakness and whining: Either stand fast and fight hard for what you believe in or sit down and cede the floor to those who will.

1. I am so damned sick of that expression "man up"--as though male is the default setting for what?
courage? integrity? loyalty? backbone?

2. Even those "on our side" are not really. I'm about ready for Mother Nature to initiate a
do-over for humanity because we have fucked up her planet so much.

Only problem is that we are taking the planet with us.

Sexism is so ingrained in us that I am afraid we will never outgrow it.

3. We are not taking the planet with us.
We are, however, doing damage to ecosystems, which we need to survive. In roughly 120,000 years we have reached a point where the continuation of our existence is in our own hands. If we continue down the path we are on, we will eventually make Earth uninhabitable for homo sapiens (and other species), but life itself will continue in one form or another. The end of humanity isn't the end of our planet, and we are nothing more than a bad case of acne.

4. Agreed
The planet will be here without us. Something will survive, redevolop...probably better than ever after we're gone actually.

Unfortunately all the scumbags that are causing/denying this won't be here. So really, it's quite a 'convenient truth' for those. Not so much for their ancestors.
