2. I didn't recognize most of the performers. They should have put their names up. nt

5. I thought the same thing....
Edited on Sat Jan-23-10 12:41 AM by Tx4obama
there were many that I did not recognize too.
While watching the telethon I had to keep checking on Twitter to see who was singing :)

Here's a link to a list of the performers and songs in order of appearance:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hope_for_Haiti_Now:_A_Global_Benefit_for_Earthquake_Relief

That list above doesn't include the folks that just talked such as: Clint Eastwood, Julia Roberts, Morgan Freeman, Denzel Washington, Tom Hanks, and I can't remember the others off the top of my head right now.

Edited to ADD; Here's a little list I found on the web...
Participants to include: President Bill Clinton, Ben Stiller, Brad Pitt, Chris Rock, Clint Eastwood, Denzel Washington, Halle Berry, Jon Stewart, Julia Roberts, Leonardo DiCaprio, Matt Damon, Meryl Streep, Morgan Freeman, Nicole Kidman, Robert Pattinson, Samuel L. Jackson, Tom Hanks, Will Smith with Muhammad Ali ....

7. Beyonce's hair threw me off, but I did guess it was someone from Destiny's Child. So, I was close!

8. you know you're getting old when you can't identify half the performers . . .
on the telethon . . . oh, I recognized Dave Matthews and Neil Young all right, and Springsteen, Stevie, Madonna, even Alicia Keys and Justin Timberlake (though I didn't know who that guy singing with him was) . . . but a lot of the women simply didn't register with me . . . since I don't listen to much contemporary music (hardly any, actually), differentiating Beyonce from Mary J. Blige from Shakira is apparently beyond by seemingly diminished cognitive powers . . . or maybe I just need to adjust the meds . . .

still, I loved the music, and marveled that they were able to pull this all together in such a short amount of time . . . George Clooney deserves mega-props for taking the lead, and all who took part have my appreciation and respect . . . though my own contribution will be modest, it's heartfelt and sincere . . . if you haven't contributed yet, here's the website . . .

https://www.hopeforhaitinow.org/Default.asp

please give what you can, either there or to one of the many other outfits that are raising funds for Haitian relief . . . the need is great, and our response, both individually and collectively, should as generous as possible . . .

9. Me too. I got Madonna, Timberlake, Young, but not Matthews, Beyonce, Keys or Shakira.
I think I would be able to recognize Lady Gaga and Susan Boyle were they to show up, but after that, not too many.

10. It's about Haiti, not the performers.
That's why they don't put their names up.

11. Yes and no
Of course the telethon was all about Haiti.
But the 'point' of the telethon was to 'raise money' and part of the 'raising money' is them selling the songs on iTunes. If people don't know who the people are that are singing a particular song or the name of the song then it is going to be difficult to go and buy the song - the less people buying the songs means less money for Haiti.

Just a thought ;)
