17. When I was growing up

my mother pounded into my head that lying will make you crazy because one lie has to cover another, and it never stops. As a lawyer once told me: "Everything changes once the lying starts." Republicans have no compunction about lying because their base is brain washed by a steady stream of fear mongering, and thus can't think clearly.
I believe it was Mark Twain who once propounded the idea that the best part of telling the truth is you don't have to think.
If only the dissembling prevaricating Republicans would use their brain power for the good of the country instead of the acquisition and retention of power, the political discourse might actually get something accomplished that promotes the general welfare.
The thought of honesty from the Republican Party is from another time and another Universe.
