4. Excellent!
The proof is in the pudding.

Until someone is turned away, or fined for not having health care insurance, or isn't given a government benefit to pay for insurance they can't afford, all this arguing is pretty much just bullshit.

5. Of course it doesn't go into effect until after his last election.
What Obama fails to understand is that some of us were looking around while he was selling out the People's interests to PhRMA and Insurers behind closed doors, championing the Republican side, shutting down progressives, and allowing his administration to disrespect liberals while he was rolling over for corporate interests and watching lobbyists write the legislation.

His speeches on healthcare prior to my voting for him do not at all match the speeches or actions since. I notice that on most issues. His leadership existed only in the negative during the formulation of the bill he's out front taking credit for. This is obvious bullshit to those with eyes to see and a brain to remember.

6. some benefits start this year
I listened carefully. Some things start in 4 years, but some things start this year or as they can get organized. It is still a landmark day today, even if it is so much less than hoped for. Most importantly, though, it should take the foul wind out of the RWers... well, the few with a visible IQ.

8. If Dems win this fall on health care, adding the PO to the exchange is pretty much in the bag
one step at a time.

9. I think it's at least ten years down the road, if not thirty.
It took Britain, France, Canada (and other industrialized countries who treat health care as a basic right for their people) decades to iron out the kinks in their healthcare systems. Today their systems are pretty efficient and do a good job of treating the population overall, but setting up a big lunky bureaucracy and learning where the problems are and how to fix them is something that, organically speaking, takes time to evolve.

Our system will have problems and scandals and market inefficiencies for years to come. If you have problems now, you're either union, rich, a public employee, or fucked. That will not change over night. And until a full system that protects everyone is in place, the Republicans will be riding along in the cart we built without their help trying to tear the wheels off. The system will be functional a generation from now; we're doing this for the future. Any immediate benefits are just us getting damned lucky. Welcome to democracy.

10. Or the Repukes will push Obama to do it sooner
I think the Repukes will push it to Medicare for all without even trying or wanting that outcome. Foot meet gun. Ouch!
