1. Great stuff! I agree with every word. Recommended!
Get a pop filter or a different mic, though.

2. What's a pop filter?
What is that? Maybe I am speaking too close to the mic so I'll correct that but this mic really improved the audio portion of our videos.

And sadly(NOT), if you agree 100% with me then you are a neocon. ROFL.

But I know what you meant and thanks..

Once more - what is a pop filter?

3. I noticed the popping P's.
I'm a recording engineer, so I can't help noticing technical flaws, sorry. The fidelity of your mic is good, but I couldn't miss the pops. Backing away a bit would indeed help (a bit), but with the tradeoffs of reduced voice level, increased ambient sound, etc.

Here's the deal. Letters like P and B (and T) produce big blasts of air that result in an audible "pop" when the gust hits the mic. A pop filter is a gizmo that goes in front of the mic and lets the audio through while holding back the air blasts. You've probably seen them in pictures of vocalists in recording studios.

Of course, this kind of setup won't work very well with the table-type mic you are using. Using a different mic with a built-in pop filter (perhaps like this one?) might be a good option for you.

Just for fun, I also found this video on how to make your own pop filter for less than $10! The guy in the video really knows his stuff.

Anyway, pops or no, keep the videos coming! I enjoy hearing from you both.

4. Thanks (again)
Thanks much for taking the time to explain. I always wondered what those saucer like things were in various videos, mostly music, that I viewed. I'll check out the video you cite. If I can't get something for those pops I'll just move the mic away from me. I really got it for my wife, the Kat, who has a very soft voice. But don't be fooled by her 'soft' voice. She has a gigantic baseball bat by her side which she uses mostly on me.. sob... boo hoo.. I'm a victim..wah wah... Sorry, I'm going off on a rant (again).

8. Glad to help. While I'm pontificating on this, here's one more tip.
The fix (with your current mic) might be as simple as talking toward a point a couple inches to the right (or to the left!) of the mic, in effect redirecting the air blasts so they don't actually hit the mic itself. The actual voice sound should not be affected with this technique.

:)

10. Pontificate away my friend!!
I checked out that video. I think I came up with an idea. I'm gonna incorporate what you just said - speak on the left - NEVER the right for obvious reasons.

Also, I have a couple of amps and mics for my musical stuff. I may use one of the smaller amps with another mic in future videos. I'll test this out first.

God, this is becoming complicated! Where's that booze? LOL

5. love you guys!
so great to see folks who haven't drunk the kool aid, willing and motivated to speak out and tell the truth.

keep it up!

your whole message is right on the money.

but for pure entertainment value I just love the George Washington story told in the working class vernacular, "he told him to go fuck himself" and your wife's reaction of actually doubling over laughing is priceless.

thanks I needed that in these very dark times.

6. Glad I could make you laugh
Thanks much! And that's probably the most important thing we can do here - make everyone laugh a bit. Hope you and the rest of us get through these times in one piece and with our sanity. Okay, forget the sanity especially regarding ME..

7. thanks for bucking me up
I'll be following your blog regularly, too.

I'm going to be getting mine back up again as well, I've been really intermittent about keeping it up, but I'm so fired up now.

the lies have gone so far over the top.

and the core lie that they represent the Real Americans like us. and that somehow the teabagger assholes are "real americans"

think you might enjoy this site I built to honor my Dad and something he wrote for me as an incredible gift when I was trying to break into acting. its an homage to all working men everywhere.

9. Wow!
I watched the 1st video (UN) and my mouth remained opened the entire time - no joking! What a performance especially considering there wasn't any audience. I assume Robert, the writer of the play, is your brother?

Was your accent a put on or do you have that kind of accent? I ask because it's similar to mine I think. I'm gonna bookmark your site and go through it, especially the videos. How did you know I was a sucker for 1 or 2 person plays? Been talking to my wife? LOL

Something also you said about the morons referring to the 'American people' in all of their tirades. I wrote an article about that very thing on my blog in which I talk about the 2 American people - the 22% in their nut house vs the normal 78% of the rest of us.

I gotta run but, like I said, I'm gonna check out your other stuff. The entire steel industry tragedy still makes me sad when I think about it.

later.

14. Robert was my Dad
who passed away in 2006 at the young age of 75. shocking all of us.

a brilliant man who I loved deeply and my eyes are holding back tears as I write this and remember him.

Alzheimers came out of nowhere and took him within 3 years. which I guess in some way is a blessing as they can linger for 20 years like that, and he would've hated that.

btw, he didn't leave a Living Will (Death Panels!) so once he became comotose and no hope of recovery, it was up to me, my brother and mom to make the decision to remove the feeding tube. and sit for a week as we watched him slowly starve to death. no one should ever have to go thru that.

also btw, his medical coverage thru the Steel was discontinued a couple years before as they went bankrupt and were sold off. his pension was also cut. thank goodness Medicare covered most all of the bills. Yeah Socialism! God Bless FDR and LBJ!!!

I created the accent, I don't think I talk like that anymore, altho I grew up here in Bethlehem, I spent 22 years on the west coast after college and ended up talking like a surfer dude. but I love those kind of guys and when I decided to do the play after moving back here, I got involved with a group of steelworkers trying to preserve the history of the workers www.steelworkersarchives.com and they helped sponsor the play. I do talk like you tho, but without so much of an accent, if you fucking know what I mean. those god damn assholes! ;-)

15. Oh really?
Edited on Fri Mar-26-10 04:29 PM by Raoul
Sorry but I only tolerate profanity on videos.. LOL

That was both a tragedy but yet a blessing in a way regarding his getting that in the late stages of life. I thought you get it in late 50s or early 60s. And you're right about no one having to go through such a trial. Glad you made it through okay.

When you said that thing about the Steel industry cutting his pension, you reminded me of the reason I took a lump sum payout rather than a pension when I left the telecommunications job I had in Penna. A buddy of mine told me that there had been a court ruling in Penna. regarding, ironically, a Steel Industry employee. The company he worked for actually discontinued the entire pension. The guy took them to court and the judge asked him one question. "How much did you contribute to your pension?" was the question to which the guys replied "nothing". The judge ruled that since he hadn't contributed anything, he was at the mercy of the company's largesse or some bullshit like that.

Any pension I got would have been based on the same thing - I didn't contribute anything. So, I took a lump sum payout instead and am still relying on some of it, 15 years later. I'd rather depend on my own stock investing savvy than any company who can go under at the drop of a hat.

Like I said before, once I get the time I'm going back and checking out your entire blog. I assume you have a place there where anyone can comment and I will if there's something I wanna say or whatever.

Later..

In my haste to peruse your blog I missed the dedication to your father. Robert was your Dad and he wrote the play I assume. Sorry for the screw up.

I enjoy listening to your vids. You speak for many of us. We need to call out the Right more on their twisted logic. Call 'em out and shine the spotlight on the glaring mistruths they're propagating. Nothing sets a cockroach running faster than bright light!

23. CNN is the armpit of the world!
CNN has been going downwards for some time now. Their ratings are in the tank and I think they're trying to establish some kind of indentity or whatever. I watched the video you cite - I love the part where the ahole says that we claimed "bush lied and people died which everyone knows is not true". Oh really? I guess he never heard of Iraq, right? What's the count up to now regarding the Iraqi civilians? I've heard anywhere from 100,000 to maybe a million.

19. Wonderful!
I look forward to watching every week! I tried to subscribe to your youtube channel but I'm having problems with my account, Im working on it.
And agreed, we have to keep involved in our own democracy, we cant let the crazies take over. Im afraid though that unless something really changes quickly with their own leadership and the MSM we will soon see a point of no return whereby they might do something extremely dangerous. We can all see that they are being egged on, on a daily basis by their own leadership. Sooner or later somethings going to break.

20. YouTube help
If you haven't already tried this, go to the bottom of the YouTube screen. Over at the left hit the 'help' button and it takes you to another screen - at bottom is 5 columbs. In first one is the 'contact us' thing which shows you who to call or write or whatever to fix your problem. I had to do this a couple of years ago.

25. Hey Kids! Love ya both!
Kat, I hope and pray that we can handle these ass-hats in a non-violent way. But after the events of this past weekend, and given the "landscape' of where I live, I'm becoming a bit worried. I'm surrounded by kooks, and if you disagree with them, they get irrational as hell. I hate to think about putting my CCW into action, but I'm feeling more threatened with each passing day. I don't want my family or myself to be a victim. You guys be careful, and keep up the good work!

:hi:
